News Corporation Announces Unaudited Consolidated Earnings Results for the Fourth Quarter and Full Year Ended June 30, 2014; Provides Capex Guidance for the Fiscal 2015

News Corporation announced unaudited consolidated earnings results for the fourth quarter and full year ended June 30, 2014. For the quarter, the company reported total revenues of $2,186 million against $2,257 million a year ago. Income before income tax benefit was $24 million against loss before income tax benefit of $1,460 million a year ago. Net income attributable to stockholders was $12 million against net loss attributable to stockholders of $1,124 million a year ago. Basic and diluted earnings per share were $0.02 against basic and diluted loss per share of $1.94 a year ago. Adjusted total revenues were $2,186 million against $2,209 million a year ago. Adjusted total segment EBITDA were $153 million against $165 million a year ago. Total segment EBITDA was $127 million against $130 million a year ago. Adjusted net income attributable to stockholders was $6 million or $0.01 per share against $69 million or $0.12 per share a year ago. The majority of the revenue decline reflects lower advertising revenues at the News and Information Services segment, the sale of LMG and foreign currency fluctuations, partially offset by strong performance in the Book Publishing and Digital Real Estate Services segments. Adjusted revenues were 1% lower than the corresponding prior year period. For the full year, the company reported total revenues of $8,574 million against $8,891 million a year ago. Loss before income tax benefit was $397 million against income before income tax benefit of $173 million a year ago. Net income attributable to stockholders was $237 million against $506 million a year ago, which included a non-taxable gain on the CMH and SKY Network Television Ltd. transactions as well as impairment charges. Basic and diluted earnings per share were $0.41 against $0.87 a year ago. Net cash provided by operating activities was $854 million against $501 million a year ago. Capital expenditures were $379 million against $332 million a year ago. Adjusted total revenues were $8,561 million against $8,672 million a year ago. Adjusted total segment EBITDA were $832 million against $850 million a year ago. Total segment EBITDA was lifted 12% to $770 million compared to $688 million for the previous year. Adjusted net income was $268 million, down 25% from $357 million. Adjusted EPS was 46 cents, down from 62 cents. Free cash flow available to the company was $365 million, an improvement of $293 million compared to last year. For the fiscal 2015, capex should be around $400 million, including the additional $60 million capitalized software costs at Amplify, as well as around $70 million in the U.K. to complete the London office relocation.
