MMC Corporation Reportedly In Talks To Acquire Stake In NCB Holdings

MMC Corporation Bhd (KLSE:MMCCORP) is believed to be in talks with MISC Berhad (KLSE:MISC) to buy its 15.73% equity stake in NCB Holdings Bhd (KLSE:NCB), reported Edge Financial citing sources. The negotiation is already at advanced level, according to sources familiar with the matter, and a deal is expected to be sealed soon. A source said, "MISC wants to exit [the port business], while tycoon Tan Sri Syed Mokhtar Albukhary (through MMC) wants a foothold in Northport." The divestment is part of MISC's strategy to hive off non-core and non-performing assets. A source noted that NCB might be used as a listed vehicle for the backdoor listing of Syed Mokhtar's port business.

NCB Holdings Bhd Reports Unaudited Consolidated Earnings Results for the Third Quarter and Nine Months Ended September 30, 2014

NCB Holdings Bhd reported unaudited consolidated earnings results for the third quarter and nine months ended September 30, 2014. For the quarter, the company reported revenue of MYR 199,509,000 against MYR 224,558,000 a year ago. Loss from operations was MYR 1,203,000 against profit from operations of MYR 35,107,000 a year ago. Loss before taxation was MYR 2,550,000 against profit before taxation of MYR 33,570,000 a year ago. Loss attributable to owners of the company was MYR 2,303,000 or 0.5 sen per basic and diluted share against profit attributable to owners of the company of MYR 27,265,000 or 5.8 sen per basic and diluted share a year ago. The drop in revenue was a result of lower container and conventional cargo throughput handled by the Port. Container business being the main contributor of revenue registered a decrease in containers handled to 644,722 teus from 715,918 teus for the same quarter in the previous year. The loss before taxation for the current quarter was mainly due to the lower revenue registered for the third quarter together with higher operating, depreciation and amortization costs and interest expenses. For the nine months, the company reported revenue of MYR 610,907,000 against MYR 690,944,000 a year ago. Profit from operations was MYR 17,325,000 against MYR 96,536,000 a year ago. Profit before taxation was MYR 12,921,000 against MYR 91,964,000 a year ago. Profit attributable to owners of the company was MYR 5,268,000 or 1.1 sen per basic and diluted share against profit attributable to owners of the company of MYR 56,531,000 or 12.0 sen per basic and diluted share a year ago. Cash flows from operating activities were MYR 82,489,000 against MYR 122,994,000 a year ago. Purchase of property, plant and equipment were MYR 88,734,000 against MYR 161,482,000 a year ago. Purchase of intangible assets was MYR 62,343,000 against MYR 161,104,000 a year ago. The drop in revenue was a result of lower container and conventional cargo throughput handled by the port. Container business being the main contributor of revenue registered a decrease in container handled to 1,888,272 teus from 2,176,594 teus for the same period previous year.
