Neste Oil Corp. Announces the Metso's Automation and Flow Control Technology for the Sulfur Plant

Neste Oil Corp. will replace its existing systems with Metso's modern automation and flow control technology at the Porvoo refinery sulfur plant in Finland. The Present's technology solutions have advanced features that improve field device upkeep and diagnostics. With modern solutions, it is possible to more accurately control the process of transforming sulfur recovered from the refining processes into elementary sulfur. When the equipment and systems operate more reliably, availability and efficiency at the sulfur plant will improve, too. Metso's delivery to the sulfur plant includes a Metso DNA automation system, an information management system with history tools, operator work stations with monitors, a safety system, connections to Neste Oil's existing systems, automated on-off and ESD valves equipped with intelligent valve controllers, as well as control valves. Metso is also responsible for the project engineering, installation and commissioning of the automation system, as well as staff training. The equipment will be delivered and handed over to the customer in 2015. The orders are included in the first and second quarter orders 2014 received by Metso's Automation segment. The values of the orders are not disclosed.

Neste Oil Announces Changes to its Executive Board

Neste Oil announced the change its organization and the composition of the Neste Executive Board. Neste Oil is to change its structure and organization, in response to developments that have taken place in its businesses and operating environment in recent years. Two new members have also been appointed to the Neste Executive Board (NEB) as part of these changes and various changes have been made to the responsibilities of some of the other members of the NEB. All these changes will come into effect as of 16 June, with the exception of the change in the leadership of Oil Retail, which will take place later. Matti Lehmus has been appointed Executive Vice President, Oil Products. He was previously responsible for Oil Products & Renewables. Matti Lehmus has a long career in Neste Oil and its predecessors and has extensive expertise of international sales and marketing management in the petroleum products and renewable fuels fields in particular. Renewable Products will receive a more independent role as a result of the changes, reflecting the fact that it has become a major part of Neste Oil. Kaisa Hietala, M.Sc. (Geophysics), M.Phil. (Environmental Science), has been appointed Executive Vice President, Renewable Products and a new member of the NEB. She was previously responsible for the business when it formed part of Oil Products & Renewables. Executive Vice President, Oil Retail Sakari Toivola will retire by the end of 2014. Senior Vice President, Production & Logistics Ilkka Poranen, who has been responsible for a number of major plant investments and logistics arrangements, will transfer to new duties within Neste Oil now that Production & Logistics no longer forms part of the company's organization. All of the members of the NEB report to President & CEO Matti Lievonen.

Neste Oil to Launch New, Low-Sulfur Bunker Fuel

Neste Oil will launch a low-sulfur marine bunker fuel compliant with the requirements of the EU's Sulphur Directive. The new fuel reduces sulfur, nitrogen and particle emissions in the marine transport significantly. EU's Sulphur Directive is due to come into force in 2015 and will require the sulfur content of bunker fuel to be reduced from 1% to 0.1% in the Baltic, the North Sea, and the English Channel. In practice, this means that ships will have to install an on-board scrubber system or switch to low-sulfur bunker fuel. Neste Oil will produce the new fuel at both its Porvoo and Naantali refineries, and it will be available towards the end of this year at ports around Finland.
