Naspers Ltd. announced the passing of Professor Jakes Gerwel. Prof Gerwel served on the board of Naspers from July 1999. He also served as chairman of Media24 since 2007 and was chairman of Welkom Yizani.

Naspers Ltd. announced consolidated earnings results for the six months ended September 30, 2012. The company reported consolidated revenue of ZAR 23 billion, a 22% increase, for the six months ended 30 September 2012. Core headline earnings per share, considered by the board to be a good indication of sustainable performance, increased 15% to ZAR 10.62, totaling ZAR 4.1 billion. The internet segment remained the area of fastest growth, whilst some benefit was gained from a weaker rand. Positive free cash flows increased 22% to ZAR 1.7 billion. Operating profit was ZAR 2,492 million compared to ZAR 1,953 million a year ago. Profit before taxation was ZAR 6,052 million compared to ZAR 3,272 million a year ago. Profit for the period was ZAR 4,658 million compared to ZAR 2,264 million a year ago. Profit for the period attributable to equity holders of the group was ZAR 4,150 million compared to ZAR 1,869 million a year ago. Core headline earnings for the period were ZAR 4,086 million compared to ZAR 3,458 million a year ago. Fully diluted core headline earnings per ordinary share were 1,024 cents compared to 884 cents a year ago. Headline earnings for the period was ZAR 3,194 million compared to ZAR 2,597 million a year ago. Fully diluted headline earnings per ordinary share were 800 cents compared to 664 cents a year ago. Cash flow from operating activities was ZAR 4,092 million compared to ZAR 1,912 million a year ago.
