Optical Cable Corporation, together with its subsidiaries, manufactures and sells fiber optic and copper data communications cabling and connectivity solutions for the enterprise market in the United States and internationally. The company markets and sells various copper datacom cables, including unshielded and shielded twisted pair. It also offers fiber optic connectivity products, including fiber optic wall mounts, cabinet mount and rack mount enclosures, pre-terminated fiber optic enclosures, fiber optic connectors, splice trays, fiber optic jumpers, plug and play cassette modules, pre-terminated fiber optic cable assemblies, adapters, and accessories. In addition, the company provides copper connectivity products comprising category compliant patch panels, jacks, plugs, patch cords, faceplates, surface mounted boxes, distribution and multi-media boxes, copper rack mount and wall mount enclosures, cable assemblies, cable organizers, and other wiring products for datacenter, telecommunications closet, equipment room, and workstation applications. Further, it offers network, data storage, and telecommunications management systems, such as data cabinets, wall-mount enclosures, cable management systems, and open frame relay racks for commercial and residential use; and datacom wiring products, such as various enclosures, modules, and modular outlets for single dwelling and multiple dwelling residential uses. Additionally, the company provides applied interconnect systems, which include specialty fiber optic connectors and connectivity components, ruggedized copper datacom connectors, and related systems and solutions for military and harsh environment applications. It sells its products to distributors, original equipment manufacturers, value-added resellers, and end-users. Optical Cable Corporation was founded in 1983 and is headquartered in Roanoke, Virginia.

Optical Cable Corporation Announces Introduction of Next Generation Category 8 Connector

Optical Cable Corporation announced the introduction of the first commercially available connector designed to meet the coming Category 8 (Cat8) copper connectivity and cabling industry standard developed by the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA). The company's Cat8 Field Terminable Plug is designed to provide the high level of performance for direct attach, high speed applications when used in combination with a Category 8 copper cable, providing data transmission speeds of up to 40 Gb/s (gigabits per second). The company's new Cat8 plug meets the latest draft of ANSI/TIA-568-C.2-1 Balanced Twisted-Pair Telecommunications Cabling and Components Standard, Addendum 1: Specifications for 100 ohms Category 8 Cabling, expected to be released for publication by the TIA late next year. The Category 8 standard defines the performance requirements of copper cables and connectivity for the next generation of BASE-T Ethernet being developed by the IEEE in the P802.3bq Task Force, which will be termed 40GBASE-T. The OCC Category 8 Field Installable Plug announced uses the same shielded housing used in the company's Category 6A Shielded Field Installable Plug-a design that enables simple terminations with no specialized tools. These products are ideal for direct attach, high speed links and data center server connections.

Optical Cable Corp. Announces Unaudited Consolidated Earnings Results for the Third Quarter and Nine Months Ended July 31, 2014

Optical Cable Corp. announced unaudited consolidated earnings results for the third quarter and nine months ended July 31, 2014. For the quarter, net sales increased 7.2% to $21.0 million compared to $19.6 million for the third quarter of fiscal year 2013. The increase in net sales during the third quarter was attributable to increased sales of the company's fiber optic cable products. Income from operations was $539,000 compared to loss from operations of $101,000 a year ago. Income before income taxes was $433,000 compared to loss before income taxes of $219,000 a year ago. Net income was $278,000 compared to net loss of $144,000 a year ago. Net income attributable to the company was $292,000, or $0.04 per basic and diluted share compared to a net loss attributable to the company of $125,000, or $0.02 per basic and diluted share, for the third quarter of fiscal year 2013. For the nine months, net sales increased 3.0% to $57.7 million compared to $56.0 million for the same period in fiscal year 2013. The company reported increase in net sales during the first nine months of fiscal year 2014 in its commercial markets; however, this was partially offset by a decrease in net sales in its specialty markets. Loss from operations was $340,000 compared to income from operations of $444,000 a year ago. Loss before income taxes $647,000 compared to income before income taxes of $89,000 a year ago. Net loss was $322,000 compared to net income of $42,000 a year ago. Net loss attributable to the company was $263,000, or $0.04 per basic and diluted share compared to net income attributable to the company of $48,000, or $0.01 per basic and diluted share, for the same period last year.
