Oerlikon Reports Earnings Results for the Second Quarter and Six Months Ended June 2014

Oerlikon reported earnings results for the second quarter and six months ended June 2014. The sales grew by 12.1% and eliminating impacts from foreign exchanges rates even stronger by some 15.8%. The company delivered an EBIT of double-digit EBIT for the 10th consecutive quarter and achieved an EBITDA margin of 16.1%. EBITDA and EBIT increased by 7.4% to CHF 130 million and 2.2% to CHF 91 million, respectively, and this is despite being impacted by one-off transaction cost and noncash accounting effects of Metco transaction. On a sequential basis, EBIT improved due to the higher sales volume. For the first 6 months of 2014, sales increased by almost 6% to CHF 1.5 billion, driven by the growing business in Manmade Fiber. EBITDA grew by some 5% to CHF 250 million and EBIT amounted to CHF 178 million, resulting in an EBIT margin of around 11.7%, impacted by the mentioned impact with regards to the Metco transaction, which was talked about a couple of times in the past already. Operating cash flow generated about CHF 85 million, mainly impacted by the decline in customer advances to the tune of about CHF 80 million reduction that was seen in the comparable period, which is related to the already addressed normalization of the Manmade Fiber business. Capital expenditure, whilst coming in at about CHF 55 million, that's about 15% lower than the year ago.
