ON Semiconductor Unveils New Family of Ultra-Low Power Precision Operational Amplifiers

ON Semiconductor has introduced a family of affordable, precision CMOS operational amplifiers (op amps) that deliver zero drift operation and quiescent current for front-end amplifier circuits and power management designs. Targeted at industrial, white goods, telecom, wearables, Internet-of-Things (IoT), test equipment and instrumentation applications, the NCS325 and NCS333 op amp devices enhance the accuracy of motor control feedback and power supply control loops, thereby contributing to higher overall system efficiency. These devices are complemented by the new NCV333 automotive-qualified (AEC-Q100 grade 1) op amp offering similar functional performance for power train, braking, electronic power steering, valve controls, fuel pump and fuel injection system applications. Featuring high DC precision parameters, such as the 10 micro Volts (µV) maximum input offset voltage at ambient temperature and the 30 nV/°C of offset temperature drift, make these amplifier devices extremely well optimized for low side current sensing and voltage differential measurement on front-end sensor functions. Minimal voltage variations over temperature along with close to zero offset ensure the efficiency of systems exposed to wide operating temperature ranges without the need for complex software calibration algorithms, resulting in a more manageable design and longer product lifespan. The NCS325 and NCS333 provide rail-to-rail input and output performance and are optimized for low voltage operation of 1.8 volt (V) to 5.5 V, with a best in class quiescent currents of 21 µA and 17 µA respectively at 3.3 V. The devices operate with a gain bandwidth of 350 kilohertz (kHz) with ultra-low peak to peak noise down to 1.1 µV from 0.1 Hertz (Hz) to 10 Hz. The NCS325 is offered in a 3 mm x 1.5 mm 5-pin TSOP package. It has unit pricing of $0.35 in 3,000 unit quantities. The NCS333 is offered in a 1.5 mm x 3 mm SOT23-5 package or in a 2mm x 1.25mm SC70-5 and has unit pricing of $0.5, in 3,000 unit quantities.

ON Semiconductor Introduces Two New Series of Power Factor Corrected Ac-Dc Drivers for Led Lighting Applications

ON Semiconductor announced two new series of power factor corrected (PFC) offline Ac-Dc drivers for high performance LED lighting applications. Extending the NCL3008x family of products, the NCL30085 [2], NCL30086 [3] and NCL30088 [4] address single stage design implementations up to 60 watts (W) that require high power factor. The NCL30030 broadens the existing solutions which support higher power (up to 150 W) two stage topologies that require low optical ripple and wide LED forward voltage variation. The NCL30085, NCL30086 and NCL30088 utilize a power factor corrected current control algorithm which makes them suitable for flyback buck-boost, and SEPIC topologies. By operating in quasi-resonant mode these devices are able to deliver optimum efficiency across wide line and load levels. The innovative control methodology they employ allows strict current regulation to be achieved (within 2% typically) solely from the primary side. The non-dimmable NCL30088 is complemented by the NCL30086, which is ‘smart-dimmable,’ supporting analog and/or pulse-width modulation (PWM) dimming with a single input that controls the average LED current. Completing the series is the NCL30085 which supports three levels of log step dimming (70%, 25% and 5%). As a consequence, it permits light output reduction by toggling the AC switch on/off to signal the controller to lower the LED current point. All three devices feature user configurable current thermal fold-back mechanisms that help prevent overheating and enable manufacturers to support longer lifetime warranties. The NCL30085 and NCL30088 are offered in SOIC-8 packages, while the NCL30086 is offered in SOIC-10 package with pricing of the series starting at $0.35 per unit in 10,000 unit quantities. The NCL30030 is a two stage PFC controller plus quasi-resonant flyback controller optimized for medium and high power LED lighting applications up to 150 W. This device is best suited for commercial lighting such as lowbay, highbay and streetlighting. The NCL30030 makes use of a proprietary multiplier architecture to achieve low harmonic distortion and near-unity power factor while operating in critical conduction mode (CrM). The NCL30030 is in an SOIC '16 package with 1 pin removed for high voltage spacing and pricing starts at $0.65 per unit in 10,000 unit quantities.

ON Semiconductor Introduces High Performance CMOS Image Sensor for Use in Advanced Video Security Cameras

ON Semiconductor has introduced its latest high performance CMOS image sensor targeted for use in advanced video security cameras. The AR0230CS image sensor is a 1/2.7 inch optical format device with 105 decibel (dB) dynamic range that combines low-light capabilities with superior near-infrared (NIR) performance. For security camera makers looking to upgrade their current 720p IP camera designs, the AR0230CS offers high quality 1080p (1920 x 1088 resolution) video, from the 1/2.7 inch 2.1 megapixel (MP) CMOS sensor with integrated high dynamic range (HDR) support. This image sensor enables the capture of high-definition (HD) 1080p video data at a rate of 60 frames-per-second (fps). It includes integrated support for HDR video, with improved motion compensation, advanced local tone mapping (ALTM), and digital lateral overflow (DLO) to minimize motion artifacts and enhance HDR color reproduction. This complete HDR functionality ensures fast time to market for new HDR 1080p camera designs. Additionally, the AR0230CS provides interleaved T1/T2 output for those using third-party ISP HDR support. The company's proprietary dual-conversion gain 3.0 micron (µm) DR-Pix™ pixel technology is used to enhance low light performance and broaden the dynamic range up to a maximum of 105 dB. The DR-Pix™ technology pixel provides two modes: a low conversion gain mode that is optimized to offer greater charge handling capacity in bright environments and a high conversion gain mode which delivers increased sensitivity and reduced readout noise in low light environments. Additional features include global reset release shutter mode, sophisticated on-board statistics engine, high-speed configurable context switching, automatic black level calibration (BLC), on-chip phase-locked loop (PLL) and temperature sensor. The operating temperature of the AR0230CS spans from -30 °C to +85 °C, and has both parallel and HiSPi™ interfaces. The AR0230CS is offered in a 10 mm x 10 mm 80-pin iBGA package. It is currently sampling and is expected to be in mass production in the first quarter of 2015.
