Palo Alto Networks Reveals Discovery of Unprecedented iOS and OS X Malware

Palo Alto Networks announced discovery of a new family of Apple OS X and iOS malware exhibiting characteristics unseen in any previously documented threats targeting Apple platforms. This new family, dubbed WireLurker, marks a new era in malware across Apple's desktop and mobile platforms, representing a potential threat to businesses, governments and Apple customers worldwide. Among its defining characteristics, WireLurker represents: The first known malware family that can infect installed iOS applications similar to how a traditional virus would. The first in-the-wild malware family that can install third-party applications on non-jailbroken iOS devices through enterprise provisioning. Only the second known malware family that attacks iOS devices through OS X via USB. The first malware family to automate generation of malicious iOS applications through binary file replacement.

Finjan, Inc. Files New Patent Infringement Lawsuit against Palo Alto Networks

Finjan Holdings, Inc. announced that its subsidiary, Finjan, Inc. has filed a patent infringement lawsuit against Palo Alto Networks, Inc., alleging infringement of Finjan patents relating to endpoint, web, and network security technologies. The Complaint (3:14-cv-04908, docket No. 1), filed November 4, 2014, in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, alleges that Palo Alto Networks' products and services infringe ten Finjan patents. In particular, Finjan is asserting infringement of U.S. Patent Nos. 6,804,780; 6,965,968; 7,058,822; 7,418,731; 7,613,918; 7,613,926; 7,647,633; 8,141,154; 8,225,408; and 8,677,494. Finjan is seeking a jury trial; entry of judgment of infringement of certain claims of each of the asserted patents by Palo Alto Networks; preliminary and permanent injunction against Palo Alto Networks and its officers, among others, from infringing the asserted patents; damages of no less than $60 million to the extent proven at trial; enhanced damages, up to three times the amount of the damages, for willful disregard of its patent rights; and reasonable attorneys' fees and costs.

Palo Alto Networks, Inc. Announces the Release of its Virtual Firewall Series

Palo Alto Networks, Inc. extended its leadership in security services for private, hybrid and public cloud with the latest release of its virtual firewall series (VM-Series). The latest Palo Alto Networks VM-Series release gives organizations the ability to realize the full agility and flexibility promises of cloud; to detect and prevent known and unknown cyber threats before they compromise their VDCs; and to choose the public, private or hybrid deployment architecture without compromising security. The new release of the Palo Alto Networks VM-Series also gives organizations the flexibility to maintain next-generation security across a number of cloud service providers with support for cloud infrastructure providers like Amazon Web Services (AWS), and support for Kernel-based Virtual machine (KVM), a popular open source hypervisor used in public cloud computing environments. The latest release of the Palo Alto Networks VM-Series is expected to be available by the end of October including support for AWS and KVM. The Palo Alto Networks VM-1000-HV is expected to be available in vCloud Air in the first half of calendar year 2015.
