PT Bumi Resources Tbk, through its subsidiaries, engages in the exploration, exploitation, mining, and sale of coal deposits; and oil exploration activities primarily in Indonesia. It operates through Coal, Services, Oil and Gas, and Gold segments. The company owns coal mining concessions of approximately 90,938 hectares located in Sangatta and Bengalon in the East Kalimantan province; operates 5 open cut coal mines covering an area of 70,153 hectares situated in the north shore of Pulau Laut; and manages a concession area of 8,250.5 hectares located in Loa Ulung and Tabang, East Kalimantan, as well as has 17,840 hectares concession in Muara Enim, South Sumatra. It also operates 2 oil and gas exploration concessions comprising Block R2 that covers an area of 2,139 square kilometers; and Block 13, which covers an area of 5,563 square kilometers located in the Republic of Yemen. In addition, the company is involved in the exploration of gold copper, molybdenum, zinc, lead, iron ores, diamonds, and precious metals. Further, it provides integrated mining and energy services, as well as marketing and management services. The company was formerly known as PT Bumi Modern Tbk. and changed its name to PT Bumi Resources Tbk in September 2000. PT Bumi Resources Tbk was founded in 1973 and is headquartered in Jakarta, Indonesia.

PT Bumi Resources Tbk has warned it is likely to delay its full-year results for a second time after finding a further $94 million (£61 million) of accounting issues at it subsidiary Berau Coal. According to the company, the balance sheet review by its new management team at Berau had unearthed items “which required additional substantiation”. It had found there was “not sufficient evidence to support the capitalisation of certain expenditures” of up to $56 million for earth removal and building roads at mines, while it was reviewing land compensation payments of up to $38 million. The items relate to the 2012 accounts. The company had first on March 19, announced that it was delaying its results to April 24.
