Patterson Companies, Inc. distributes dental, veterinary, and rehabilitation supplies. Its Dental Supply segment offers consumable dental supplies, such as X-ray films and solutions; impression and restorative materials; hand instruments; sterilization and infection control products; anesthetics; paper, cotton, and disposable products; toothbrushes; dental accessories; printed office products, office filing supplies, and practice management systems; radiography equipment, hand pieces, dental chairs, dental hand piece control units, diagnostic equipment, sterilizers, dental lights, chair-side restoration systems, and inter-oral cameras; and custom hardware and networking solutions. This segment also develops and markets software for scheduling, billing, charting, and capturing/storing/retrieving digital images, as well as sells software products of third parties; offers electronic patient education services to dental practices; and provides software, dental office design, and equipment financing, as well as equipment installation, repair, and maintenance services. The company’s Veterinary Supply segment offers veterinary supply products, including pharmaceuticals, vaccines, parasiticides, diagnostics, pet food, nutritional products, and consumable supplies; and veterinary equipment, software, and related services. Patterson’s Rehabilitation Supply segment offers distributed and self-manufactured rehabilitation medical supplies and assistive products; and equipment, software, and related services to acute care hospitals, long-term care facilities, rehabilitation clinics, dealers, and schools. The company serves North American dental supply; U.S. companion animal and equine veterinary supply; and the rehabilitation and assistive products supply markets worldwide. The company was formerly known as Patterson Dental Company and changed its name to Patterson Companies, Inc. in June 2004. Patterson Companies, Inc. was founded in 1877 and is based in St. Paul, Minnesota.

Patterson Companies, Inc. announced that Scott P. Anderson, president and chief executive officer, has been elected to the additional position of chairman of the board, effective April 28, 2013, the start of Patterson's 2014 fiscal year. Anderson succeeds Peter L. Frechette, who has been chairman since 1985. Frechette has been named chairman emeritus and will serve out his current term as a director, which ends in September. Prior to his post as chairman, Frechette was the company's chief executive officer from 1982-2005 and president from 1982-2003.
