The company also engages in the purchase and regulated retail sale of electricity; provision of distribution and transmission services in northern Illinois, southeastern Pennsylvania, and central Maryland. In addition, it is involved in the purchase and regulated retail sale of natural gas; and the provision of distribution services in the Pennsylvania counties surrounding the City of Philadelphia, as well as in central Maryland, including the City of Baltimore. The company serves residential, commercial, industrial, and wholesale customers; and owns generation assets. It delivers electricity and natural gas to customers in central Maryland, northern Illinois, and southeastern Pennsylvania. The company was founded in 1887 and is headquartered in Chicago, Illinois.

Exelon Corporation reported unaudited consolidated earnings results for the first quarter ended March 31, 2013. For the period, the company reported operating revenues of $6,082 million against $4,690 million for the same period in the last year. Operating income was $508 million against $359 million for the same period in the last year. Income before income taxes was $57 million against $358 million for the same period in the last year. Net loss on common stock was $4 million or $0.01 per basic and diluted share against net income on common stock of $200 million or $0.28 per basic and diluted share for the same period in the last year. Net cash flows provided by operating activities were $859 million against $994 million for the same period in the last year. Capital expenditures were $1,447 million against $1,496 million for the same period in the last year. Adjusted non-GAAP revenue was $6,894 million against $4,837 million for the same period in the last year. Adjusted non-GAAP operating income was $1,124 million against $1,102 million for the same period in the last year. Adjusted non-GAAP income before income taxes was $928 million against $981 million for the same period in the last year. Adjusted non-GAAP net income on common stock was $602 million or $0.70 per basic and diluted share against $603 million or $0.85 per basic and diluted share for the same period in the last year. For the second quarter, the company expects operating earnings to be $0.50 to $0.60 per share. This compares to realized earnings of $0.61 per share during the same period last year. The company provided cash from operations guidance for 2013.
