Bank of Hawaii Corporation operates as the holding company for Bank of Hawaii that provides financial services and products in Hawaii, Guam, and other Pacific Islands. The company operates in four segments: Retail Banking, Commercial Banking, Investment Services, and Treasury and Other. The Retail Banking segment offers financial products and services to consumers and small businesses. It offers deposit products, such as checking, savings, and time deposit accounts; loan and lease products, which include residential mortgage loans, home equity lines of credit, automobile loans and leases, personal lines of credit, installment loans, small business loans and leases, and credit cards; and retail insurance products. This segment also offers online and mobile banking services. The Commercial Banking segment’s product lines comprise corporate banking, commercial real estate loans, commercial lease financing, auto dealer financing, and deposit products. It offers commercial lending and deposit products to middle-market and large companies; and commercial real estate mortgages to investors, developers, and builders domiciled in Hawaii. This segment also provides international banking services; and merchant services to small business customers. The Investment Services segment provides private banking, trust, investment management, and institutional investment advisory services. It serves individuals and families, high-net-worth individuals, corporations, government entities, and foundations. This segment also provides brokerage services for equities, mutual funds, life insurance, and annuity products. The Treasury and Other segment offers corporate asset and liability management services, such as interest rate risk management and foreign exchange services. The company operates through 74 branch locations and 466 ATMs in Hawaii and the Pacific Islands, and a customer service center. Bank of Hawaii Corporation was founded in 1897 and is headquartered in Honolulu, Hawaii.

For the quarter, the company reported total interest income of $104,923,000 compared with $100,574,000 for the same period a year ago. Net interest income was $95,379,000 compared with $90,887,000 for the same period a year ago. Income before income taxes was $61,964,000 compared with $53,036,000 for the same period a year ago. Net income was $41,769,000 or $0.95 per basic and diluted share compared with $37,704,000 or $0.85 per basic and diluted share for the same period a year ago. The return on average assets for the third quarter of 2013 was 1.15% against 1.09% a year ago. The return on average shareholders' equity for the third quarter was 15.57% compared to 15.02% a year ago. The increase compared to the prior quarter was primarily due to increases in overdraft fees and insurance income, offset partially by lower trust and asset management income. For the nine months, the company reported total interest income of $311,464,000 compared with $296,796,000 for the same period a year ago. Net interest income was $283,024,000 compared with $266,787,000 for the same period a year ago. Income before income taxes was $176,428,000 compared with $159,187,000 for the same period a year ago. The year-to-date return on average assets was 1.15% compared to 1.09% for the same period in 2013. The year-to-date return on average equity was 15.53%, compared to 14.59% for the nine months ended September 30, 2013. As on date, book value per share was $24.04 against $22.29 per share a year ago. As on date, tangible book value per share was $23.32 against $21.58 per share a year ago. Net loans and leases charged off during the third quarter of 2014 were $0.8 million or 0.05% annualized of total average loans and leases outstanding. Loan and lease charge-offs of $3.7 million during the quarter were partially offset by recoveries of $2.9 million. The linked period decrease was primarily due to a $1.3 million payment on a commercial loan. The company recorded a $2.7 million negative provision to the allowance for loan and lease losses, which with net charge-offs about $800,000 reduce the allowance to $110.4 million or 1.67% of period-end outstanding loans and leases.
