It also offers health coaching, shared decision making tools, and health care analytics, including health coaching for medical decisions, chronic conditions, and wellness; population analytic solutions; and consulting services, as well as various photo processing services in its stores. The company offers its products to customers covered by third party payors, such as insurance companies, prescription benefit management companies, government agencies, private employers, and other managed care providers. It has a strategic alliance with GNC. As of March 1, 2014, the company operated 4,587 stores in 31 states across the United States and in the District of Columbia. Rite Aid Corporation founded in 1927 and is headquartered in Camp Hill, Pennsylvania.

Rite Aid Corporation announced sales results for the month and year-to-date ended June 28, 2014. For the month, same store sales increased 3.9% over the prior-year period. Front-end same store sales increased 0.9%. Pharmacy same store sales, which included an approximate 169 basis points negative impact from new generic introductions, increased 5.4%. Prescription count at comparable stores increased 3.5% over the prior-year period. Total drugstore sales were increased 3.5% to $1.995 billion compared to $1.927 billion for the same period last year. Prescription sales accounted for 68.4% of drugstore sales, and third party prescription sales represented 97.5% of pharmacy sales. For the year-to-date, same store sales were increased 3.3% over the prior-year period. Front-end same store sales increased 0.2% while pharmacy same store sales increased 4.8%. Prescription count at comparable stores increased 2.6% over the prior-year period. Total drugstore sales were increased 2.8% with sales of $8.420 billion compared to $8.191 billion for the same period last year. Prescription sales represented 68.4% of total drugstore sales, and third party prescription sales represented 97.4% of pharmacy sales.

Rite Aid Agrees to Pay $498,000 to Settle Pharmacist Consultation Lawsuit

Rite Aid of California agreed to pay more than $498,000 to settle a consumer protection lawsuit, alleging its pharmacists frequently failed to comply with state rules that require consultations when customers get new prescriptions. Rite Aid agreed to pay investigative costs of $78,250 and civil penalties totaling $420,000. The San Diego County District Attorney's Office will get a third of the penalties, or about $140,000, and $18,500 of the investigative costs. Under the settlement, entered without admission of liability, Rite Aid is permanently enjoined to comply with California's standards for patient consultations and must implement a compliance program.
