Its Wireless segment provides wireless voice and high-speed data communication services to consumers and businesses under the Rogers, Fido, and Chatr brands; and wireless devices and applications. This segment distributes its products through independent dealer networks, company-owned and other retail chains, convenience stores, ecommerce sites, and call centers and outbound telemarketing. As of December 31, 2013, it had approximately 9.5 million subscribers. The company’s Cable segment provides digital television and online viewing, high-speed broadband Internet access, and cable telephony services for consumers and businesses. This segment distributes its products through company-owned and other retail stores, ecommerce sites, call centers, outbound telemarketing, door-to-door agents, and third party retail locations. It has 2.1 million television, 2.0 million high-speed Internet, and 1.2 million telephony subscribers, as well as operates a network that passes approximately 4 million homes. The Business Solutions segment provides voice, data, networking, data centre, and cloud based services for medium and large businesses, governments, and other telecommunications providers. This segment distributes its products through enterprise and carrier wholesale sales force, as well as through a network of third-party channel distributors. The Media segment operates approximately 50 AM and FM radio stations; operates conventional and specialty television networks; publishes consumer magazines; offers marketing, medical, financial, and trade publications; provides online publications and access to a catalogue of 100 Canadian and U.S. magazine titles; operates online and mobile digital media platforms; owns the Toronto Blue Jays, a Major League Baseball team; and owns the Rogers Centre event venue. The company was founded in 1920 and is headquartered in Toronto, Canada.

Rogers Communications Inc. Unveils Shomi, a New Subscription Video-On-Demand Service

Rogers Communications Inc. has unveiled shomi, a new subscription video-on-demand service. shomi will be available in a beta trial to all Rogers Internet or cable customers starting November 4. Eligible Rogers customers can sign up and begin a 30-day free trial, after which customers can enjoy shomi for only $8.99 per month. As an added benefit to select Rogers customers, shomi will be automatically included for Rogers Hybrid Fibre 50 and 60 or Extreme Internet customers and above until March 31, 2015. Offering prior seasons of the most popular shows on TV today, cult-classic and fan-favourite films, shomi will be available on select tablets and mobile devices, online, and on set top boxes. shomi will also be coming soon to Xbox 360 and Chromecast.

Rogers Communications to Form 50:50 Joint Venture with Vice Media

Rogers Communications Inc. agreed to form a 50:50 joint venture (JV) with Vice Media Inc. to launch a new television (TV) channel and establish a production studio in downtown Toronto, Canada. As part of the transaction, the TV channel VICE TV Network will be launched and the new studio Vice Canada Studio will be established. On content, Vice Canada will focus on news, drama, and documentary formats, spanning food, sports, fashion, tech, and other relevant verticals. The JV content will be available across Vice Media digital properties in Canada, as well as Vice Plus, a mobile platform offering access to original programming. Under the terms of the transaction, both the partners will invest CAD 100 million ($89.58 million) in the JV.

Rogers Communications Inc. Appoints Deepak Khandelwal as Chief Customer Officer, Effective November 10, 2014

Rogers Communications Inc. announced the appointment of Deepak Khandelwal to the position of Chief Customer Officer, effective November 10, 2014. Khandelwal joins the company from Google Inc. where he is currently VP, Global Customer Experience with customers in over 100 countries world-wide. He joined Google in 2010 and led the transformation of its customer experience operations. Prior to Google he worked at McKinsey & Company from 1994 to 2010 becoming a Principal in 2001. He founded McKinsey's global customer care practice in 1998 and worked with more than 200 customer care centres to address service strategy and process improvements. An engineer by trade, Khandelwal is a disciplined, process oriented problem solver who brings a deep passion for technology and a customer first approach. As Chief Customer Officer, Khandelwal will be responsible for overhauling the customer experience as part of the company's multi-year company 3.0 strategy. He will be responsible for all customer experience functions including service strategy, customer call centres, field operations, go-to-market and online customer channels. Khandelwal will report to CEO Guy Laurence and play a key role on the company's executive leadership team. Mike Adams, who agreed to serve as the interim Chief Customer Officer, will continue to report to Guy Laurence leading a number of key files until he retires and moves back to the United States in June 2015.
