Further, the company holds UASL and 3G spectrum licenses, as well as licenses for the provision of national long distance and international long distance services; offers digital television services; operates Reliance World and Reliance Mobile stores that provide customer activation and after sales services; and builds, owns, and operates telecommunication towers, and other related assets. The company was formerly known as Reliance Communication Ventures Limited and changed its name to Reliance Communications Limited in June 2006. Reliance Communications Limited was incorporated in 2004 and is based in Navi Mumbai, India.

Reliance Communications to Cut 5,500 Jobs to Prune Debts

Reliance Communications will cut workforce by 5,500 employees by outsourcing to BPO and shared services operations, taking the overall headcount down by over 15,000 employees since January 2013. To prune a debt of over INR 400,000 million, the company has been moving out non-core services to third-party vendors and the present move is a similar initiative. The move is expected to provide a savings cushion to the fourth-largest telecom company, which has been raising efficiencies to tone up telecom operations and cut losses. Of 5,500 employees, around 4,000 are BPO employees and the remaining 1,500 are from shared services. These people are being transferred to two different companies. The process is expected to be completed in the next three to five weeks.

Reliance Communications announced that it plans to shed a hefty proportion of its workforce by outsourcing call centre and shared services operations. The company is on the verge of signing deals with two third-party service providers collectively worth close to INR 7 billion. As a result, the telco will lose around 6,000 employees from its payroll. 4,500 of the affected employees work at Reliance's call centre operations, while the remainder are shared services staff. Once the transition has taken place the telco will be left with significantly fewer than 10,000 employees.

Reliance Communications to Slash 37% Workforce

Reliance Communications will go in for restructuring in which the company is set to slash 37% of its 15,000-strong workforce by the month-end of July. Under the restructuring plan Reliance Communications will outsourcing all non-core businesses like call center operations to cutting costs to boost profitability.
