Renewable Energy Group, Inc. produces and sells advanced biofuels and renewable chemicals in the United States. The company operates through two segments, Biodiesel and Services. The Biodiesel segment is involved in acquiring feedstock, managing construction, and operating biodiesel production facilities; and marketing, selling, and distributing biodiesel and its co-products. This segment produces biodiesel from various feed stocks, including inedible corn oil, used cooking oil, and inedible animal fat; and from virgin vegetable oils, such as soybean oil or canola oil. It is also involved in the purchase and resale of biodiesel and raw material feedstocks acquired from third parties; and sale of glycerin, free fatty acids, and other co-products of the biodiesel production process. The Services segment provides biodiesel facility management and operational services to biodiesel production facilities and other clean-tech companies, as well as acts as a construction management and general contractor for the construction of biodiesel production facilities. Renewable Energy Group, Inc. was founded in 1996 and is headquartered in Ames, Iowa.

Renewable Energy Group, Inc. reported unaudited consolidated earnings results for the fourth quarter and full year ended December 31, 2013. For the quarter, the company reported total revenues of $390,591,000 compared to $231,948,000 a year ago, 68% year-over-year increase, and the revenue growth was driven primarily by volume, as the company’s average selling price per gallon declined slightly to $4.24 from $4.33 in the year ago quarter. Adjusted EBITDA was $36,076,000 compared to $13,641,000 a year ago. The gain in revenue was driven by volume, as the Company sold 89.9% more gallons of biodiesel as compared to the year-ago period. Operating income was $32.1 million, compared to an operating loss of $1.0 million for the fourth quarter of 2012. Net income attributable to common stockholders was $29.3 million, or $0.80 per share on a fully diluted basis. This compares to a net loss of $1.0 million, or $0.03 per share on a fully diluted basis in the fourth quarter of 2012. For the year, the company reported revenues of $1,498,138,000 compared to $1,015,034,000 a year ago. Income from operations was $193,310,000 compared to $15,901,000 a year ago. Income before income taxes and income from equity investments was $191,301,000 compared to $23,713,000 a year ago. Net income attributable to the company’s common shareholders was $165,254,000 or $5.00 basic and diluted per share compared to $43,482,000 or $0.27 diluted per share a year ago. The company produced 65.9 million gallons of biodiesel during the fourth quarter, an 80.9% production increase when compared to the fourth quarter of 2012. The growth in production resulted from higher capacity utilization across the fleet, as well as the October restart of production at REG Mason City, which underwent maintenance, repairs and minor upgrades after being acquired in July 2013. In addition, the company utilized contract or tolled manufacturing, which contributed 6.1 million gallons in the quarter. For the year 2013, the company produced 219.2 million gallons of biodiesel, compared to 163.5 million gallons in 2012. The growth in production resulted from higher capacity utilization, contributions from production at REG Albert Lea and REG New Boston, which were restarted in the summer, the acquisition of REG Mason City and improved production rates across the fleet. In addition, the company utilized contract or tolled manufacturing, which contributed 19.1 million gallons. The company provided earnings guidance for the first and second quarter of 2014. In the first quarter, the company expects to sell between 45 million and 55 million gallons of biodiesel, and the company expects adjusted EBITDA to range between $5 million and $15 million. In the second quarter, the company preliminarily expects to sell between 65 million and 75 million gallons of biodiesel and to achieve adjusted EBITDA at a breakeven to $10 million level.
