Reed Elsevier plc announced an agreement with Apex Affinity, provider of innovative prescription discount programs for uninsured and underinsured families nationwide. Apex has selected Elsevier's Gold Standard Drug Database for providing current and accurate drug content to enhance its member products, including a new consumer drug reference portal. Apex leverages the purchasing power of millions of consumers to negotiate deep discounts on brand-name and generic prescriptions at nearly all major big box stores, drug store chains and independent neighborhood pharmacies. Apex will use Elsevier's Gold Standard Drug Database to enable members to compare drug pricing, look-up accurate dosage information, and learn about alternative therapies and what a medication is used for and what it does. The Gold Standard Drug Database content is updated daily and has a peer-reviewed editorial process in place to ensure the highe accuracy of drug product information, drug pricing and patient education information. Apex will benefit from the database's modern technical architecture and flexible implementation, which distinguishes Gold Standard Drug Database from other drug databases.
Reed Elsevier plc announced its collaboration with The Geological Society of America (GSA). The collaboration will formally launch in September through the integration of more than 60,000 geological maps from GSA's journals, book series and the comprehensive Decade of North American Geology compendium into Geofacets, Elsevier's premier research tool for geoscientists working in exploration for the oil and gas and metals and mining industries. The move will bring the total number of maps in Geofacets to over 300,000, providing a comprehensive resource for Geofacets users to investigate potential areas for exploration in more detail than ever. The GSA will be the large 3(rd) party content contributor to Geofacets' maps database to date, providing maps from its range of publications stretching back to 1934. As a result, exploration teams using Geofacets will have more confidence in their technical evaluations of geographic areas for potential energy and mineral sources. For the GSA and its 25,000 members across 103 countries, the collaboration will allow the society to expand the reach of its maps: from its established position with academic users to those in the applied sector that need its information to make the best decisions possible. The 60,000 maps are collated from GSA's journals, including the Geological Society of America Bulletin and Geology, GSA's monthly journal that has been recognized as the most-cited geology publication for the past six years. Maps are also taken from GSA's four book series and the comprehensive Decade of North American Geology compendium.
Reed Elsevier plc announced the launch of the Genomics Data app in collaboration with Illumina, a sequencing and array-based solutions provider for genetics research. The app allows researchers to share large data sets in Illumina's BaseSpace cloud, where they can easily be reviewed and included in Elsevier's open access journal, Genomics Data. The BaseSpace app serves as a gateway, opening data stored in the cloud to the publishing environment for expert peer review and wide dissemination in the form of a professional publication. Through BaseSpace, authors and reviewers will also have additional access to analytical tools, further enhancing Genomics Data's peer review process. This enhanced review option can give an article attached to the data set added credibility because reviewers are in the position to reproduce the analysis that the authors did.
