Repower announced earnings results for the first half of 2014. Its net profit in the first half of the year contracted by 87% to CHF 3.7 million (USD 3.9 million/EUR 2.9 million), dented by low wholesale prices and unfavourable exchange rate effects. Earnings before interest and tax (EBIT) dropped by 26% to CHF 32.1 million. Sales were flat at CHF 1.178 billion. Swiss Repower to Exit Power Distribution Business in Germany

Repower AG is exiting the power distribution business in Germany due to the gloomy outlook for its operations in the neighboring country and the challenging situation in Europe's energy markets. Repower does not expect its distribution business in Germany to book positive results in the next few years. This is a result of low prices, ill-conceived subsidy schemes, threats to hydropower and regulatory uncertainty. The move will lead to 20 job cuts at Repower's branch in Dortmund and the affected employees will receive an offer of support. The exit will not affect the project for the construction of a steam power plant in Leverkusen as well as the operation of existing wind farms.
