EFI and Ricoh Partner to Bring Fiery Performance to New Ricoh Digital Presses

EFI announced the launch of a new line of Fiery digital print servers driving two new families of Ricoh(R) digital presses that were announced earlier this week. EFI and Ricoh have collaborated again to deliver high-performance Fiery digital front ends (DFE) for enhanced productivity, streamlined operation, superior image quality and optimal workflow connectivity. Making their debut this week at GRAPH EXPO 14 in Chicago, the EFI Fiery E-43A and E-83A DFEs drive the new RICOH Pro C7100X series of production color printers, and the Fiery E-43 and E-83 DFEs drive the new RICOH Pro C9100 series of production color systems. Both Fiery server pairs are powered by the new Fiery FS150 Pro server platform. RICOH Pro series printers with the new Fiery DFEs also have just received Digital Press System Certification from IDEAlliance offering users a rigorously tested and verified level of color, print imaging and production capabilities. With the new Fiery E-43A and E-43 DFEs, demanding production environments can take advantage of a lower cost of entry while still reaping the benefits of a Fiery-powered workflow for exceptional color quality and operational efficiency. High-volume printing environments with higher production capacity requirements can choose to use the top-of-the-line Fiery E-83A and E-83 servers, which incorporate the Fiery HyperRIP technology. With HyperRIP, users can better address the growing market for variable-data personalization with a technology that delivers significantly more processing power. EFI's innovative Dynamic HD Text & Graphics feature, which is standard for the Fiery E-83A and E-43A DFEs, prints sharp fine details, small font size text and ultra-thin lines, plus it reduces the jaggedness associated with half-toned, non-saturated objects on both black and color elements. The DFEs also feature specialty color support for the high-gloss clear or white toner 5(th) color station on the RICOH Pro C7100X series. Users can easily manage 5(th) color toner options to add dimension and produce higher-value impactful prints with images that pop.

Ricoh Announces TotalFlow BatchBuilder Software for Smart Production

Ricoh announced TotalFlow BatchBuilder software, an easy-to-adopt, hardware-agnostic production management tool designed to allow print jobs to be batched together in the most efficient manner. It will help free-up valuable time and capacity while enhancing productivity and speeding up response times. The software can adapt to any print environment to simplify and automate the batching and scheduling of short-run digital work from multiple sources for centralised job control. TotalFlow BatchBuilder optimises the production of digital work by grouping jobs based on client-defined parameters. It organises incoming orders from multiple sources, including web-to-print, MIS or manually inputted, enabling efficient production on continuous feed or cut sheet output devices, based on different job criteria. This solution can help with automatic scheduling and roll management for continuous feed inkjet and can perform the function of the production management queue for a web-to-print system. It is designed for commercial printers, publishing printers, centralised reprographic departments, franchise printers and service bureaux with as few as two cut sheet devices, or just one continuous feed device, or those with fleets of cut sheet and continuous feed devices, even from multiple vendors. TotalFlow BatchBuilder supports integration with common web-to-print, MIS and prepress automation tools by enabling XML mapping capabilities that allow incoming job ticket information to be mapped to internal JDF job ticket fields in order to drive the batching automation. Unlike competing solutions, it provides operators with data-rich metrics, giving more insight into jobs and overall workflow. As it is based on XML, it can output JDF compatible tickets allowing it to work with most hardware and software solutions including web-to-print and MIS. TotalFlow BatchBuilder will be available in the UK from November, 2014.

Ricoh Co. to Enter into Three-Dimensional Printer Market

Ricoh Co. announced that it will enter into the three-dimensional printer market. The company will set up two offices in Kanagawa Prefecture by the end of September, one in Yokohama and the other in Atsugi, to sell 3-D printers supplied by makers such as U.S. firms Stratasys Ltd. and 3D Systems Corp. The offices will also provide a service in which 3-D projects will be created based on customer data. The company also plans to make 3-D printers on its own starting in fiscal 2016. It expects to supply 3-D printers, priced at more than several millions of yen each, mainly to small and midsize parts makers. The company will conduct research and development activities using its inkjet and other printing technologies to make its own 3-D printers.
