RLI Corp., through its subsidiaries, underwrites property and casualty insurance primarily in the United States. Its Casualty segment provides general liability products consisting of coverage for third party liability of commercial insurers, including manufacturers, contractors, apartments, real estate investment trusts, and mercantile; environmental liability for underground storage tanks, contractors, and asbestos and environmental remediation specialists; commercial and personal umbrella liability insurance; and commercial transportation that include automobile liability and physical damage insurance to public transportation risks, equipment dealers, other types of specialty commercial automobile risks, and local, intermediate, and long haul truckers, as well as incidental and related insurance coverage. This segment also offers cargo, hull and protection and indemnity, and marine liability, as well as inland marine coverages, including builders’ risks, contractors’ equipment, and other floater type coverages; crop reinsurance; facultative and other treaty reinsurance; and homeowners and dwelling fire insurance. The company’s Surety segment provides surety coverage for license and permit, notary, and court bonds; and contract, commercial, and oil and gas surety coverage. RLI Corp. was founded in 1965 and is headquartered in Peoria, Illinois.

RLI Corp. announced promotions within its operations and underwriting team that will position the company for continued success. The following changes are effective immediately. Craig Kliethermes Promoted to Executive Vice President, Operations Craig Kliethermes, Senior Vice President, Risk Services, has been promoted to Executive Vice President, Operations. In this expanded role, Kliethermes will assume management responsibility for RLI's specialty admitted and reinsurance businesses including the Marine, Transportation and Executive Products Groups, in addition to his current responsibilities overseeing the Professional Services Group, Reinsurance Group and Risk Services Department.
The board of directors of RLI Corp. has declared a second quarter regular cash dividend of $0.34 per share, a $0.02 increase over the prior quarter. The dividend is payable on June 20, 2013, to shareholders of record as of May 31, 2013.

The decline in investment income was due to lower reinvestment rates as well as higher allocation to tax-exempt municipal bonds, which have lower pre-tax yields than taxable alternatives.
