AirAsia X Selects Rolls-Royce to Power 10 Airbus A330ceo and 55 Airbus A330neo Aircraft

Rolls-Royce has been selected by AirAsia X to power 10 Airbus A330ceo and 55 Airbus A330neo aircraft with engines and long-term TotalCare® support worth $6.2 billion. The A330ceos will be powered by Trent 700 and the A330neos will be powered by the recently-launched Trent 7000 engine. In July this year, Rolls-Royce welcomed an initial AirAsia X decision to select 50 A330neo aircraft. The airline had previously ordered 25 A330ceos, powered by another provider, and this has now been altered to ten aircraft, powered by the Trent 700. It is the large order for the Trent 7000 engine since it was launched earlier this year. A total of 132 A330neos have now been selected by airlines and lessors. The selection takes the firm AirAsia X A330ceo/A330neo fleet to 96, including aircraft sourced from operating leases, which will make the airline the large operator of the A330 family. All are powered by Rolls-Royce engines. The 68-72,000lb thrust Trent 7000 will deliver significant performance benefits compared to the current version of the Trent 700. It will improve specific fuel consumption by 10%; have twice the bypass ratio; and will halve noise.

Rolls-Royce Set to Axe Hundreds of Jobs at its Factories in UK

Rolls-Royce announced that hundreds of jobs are set to be axed at Rolls-Royce factories in the UK under plans by the company for a worldwide cutback. Derby will bear the brunt of the cuts, with plans for around 300 job losses, almost half the total. The jobs will be lost from the firm's aerospace business following an announcement in November 2014 that 2,600 jobs will be cut worldwide over the next 18 months. Rolls reported that the restructuring of its turbine business would lead to the possible closure of a site in Derby and one at Ansty in Warwickshire. Jobs are also set to go at factories at Inchinnan near Glasgow, Barnoldswick in Lancashire and Hucknall in Nottinghamshire.

Rolls Royce Holdings plc Receives an Order from the Russian Agricultural Machinery Manufacturer Rostselmash to Supply 400 MTU Engines

Rolls Royce Holdings plc has received an order from the Russian agricultural machinery manufacturer Rostselmash to supply 400 MTU engines. The 6R 460 in-line engines, which are based on Mercedes Benz models, generate between 295 and 375 kW and will be used in RSM 1401 forage-harvesters and Torum 780 combine-harvesters, which are going into series production next year. These engines are set to be delivered during 2015. Rostselmash sells its products in 26 countries. The MTU brand is part of Rolls-Royce Power Systems within the Land & Sea division of Rolls-Royce. This order has arisen from the strategic partnership forged by MTU and Rostselmash in November 2013. In the coming years, Rostselmash intends to equip up to 3000 vehicles per year with MTU engines.
