Ryanair Interested In Acquisition Of Cyprus Airways

Ryanair Holdings plc (ISE:RY4B) is interested in the acquisition of Cyprus Airways Public Ltd. Michael O'Leary, Chief Executive Officer of Ryanair, said that Ryanair will probably submit an expression of interest in troubled Cyprus Airways which is up for sale. The Cypriot government in mid-July invited non-binding expressions of interest in its shares or assets in Cyprus Airways. The deadline for submissions is July 23, 2014, and requires a non-binding expression of interest to consider a potential binding offer. O'Leary said, "We probably will make some expression of interest in Cyprus Airways. We want to see if we could help the government come up with some rescue package even though it might be too late." O'Leary said that he would be meeting with Cypriot tourism and finance officials, where Ryanair would raise concerns over high fees charged by Cypriot airports. O'Leary added, "We would like to grow more, but the impediment are the high costs. The place is stagnating."

Ryanair Launches New Route Between Dublin and Glasgow

Ryanair has launched a new Dublin-Glasgow International route as part of its extended Dublin winter 2014 schedule. This new (3 times daily) Dublin-Glasgow International route will replace Ryanair's current (once daily) Dublin-Glasgow Prestwick route, which will enable Ryanair to grow traffic from 100,000 to 300,000 p.a. to/from Glasgow, and will compliment Ryanair's existing Dublin-Edinburgh route (also three times daily). Ryanair's winter 2014 schedule at Dublin will deliver: 8 new routes to Basel, Bucharest, Cologne, Glasgow, Lisbon, Marrakesh, Nice & Prague; 59 Dublin routes in total; increased frequencies & improved schedules on 21 other routes; and over 800,000 new Ryanair customers p.a. at Dublin (8.35m in total).

Ryanair to Launch a Digital Innovation Hub, Ryanair Labs and to Recruit 200 New Staff

Ryanair is launching a digital innovation hub, Ryanair Labs, as it aims to kickstart an online travel revolution. The airline says it plans to recruit 200 new staff, including a chief technology officer, a head of digital marketing and a social media manager by December as it looks to build a world class online travel platform. Ryanair Labs will be based in Dublin and is looking to hire people across marketing, content and strategy that can not only imagine but build amazing experiences. Ryanair Labs will offer workers the perks and culture of a start-up without the downsides, such as having to pull all-nighters and give up weekends. The online push is part of attempts by Ryanair to improve the experience for its customers and so boost sales after it issued a number of profit warnings last year. It has already launched a new site that it claims makes it much easier for customers to make bookings, as well as introducing a loyalty scheme in MyRyanair that has already had more than 2 million sign-ups.
