Rolls Royce Holdings plc Opens New Gas Turbine Testing Center at Filton Facility, UK

Rolls Royce Holdings plc has opened a new gas turbine testing center at its Filton facility in Bristol, UK. The Rolls-Royce Test Facility now includes a new WR-21 Test Cell, to support the maintenance requirements of the Royal Navy's Type 45 destroyers. This new facility will service and test both WR-21 and MT30 marine gas turbines and has the capability to test up to 40MW. The Marine test facility now includes both the WR-21 and MT30 test cells, delivering cost and operational efficiencies not only in relation to the maintenance of the Type 45, but also the future naval fleet to be powered by MT30, the world's most power dense marine gas turbine. The inauguration of the Rolls-Royce Marine Test Facility means that the turbines installed in the current and future naval fleet can be stripped, reassembled and tested in one facility, here in the UK. The Type 45 destroyer is the only vessel in the world powered by the WR-21. They are unique fighting ships that warrant a unique facility capable of overhauling and testing gas turbines in the minimum of time so that they can quickly resume operations. To meet MoD objectives Rolls-Royce utilised its existing infrastructure, adapting and extending its MT30 gas turbine test cell in Bristol. Systems and components from the UK MoD's decommissioned land-based test site at Whetstone were also reconditioned for use in the new centre.

Rolls Royce Holdings plc Receives Order from Rostselmash to Supply MTU Engines

Rolls Royce Holdings plc has received an order from Rostselmash to supply 400 MTU engines. The 6R 460 in-line engines, which are based on Mercedes Benz models, generate between 295 and 375 kW and will be used in RSM 1401 forage-harvesters and Torum 780 combine-harvesters, which are going into series production next year. These engines are set to be delivered during 2015. This order has arisen from the strategic partnership forged by MTU and Rostselmash in November 2013. In the coming years, Rostselmash intends to equip up to 3000 vehicles per year with MTU engines.

AirAsia X Selects Rolls-Royce to Power 10 Airbus A330ceo and 55 Airbus A330neo Aircraft

Rolls-Royce has been selected by AirAsia X to power 10 Airbus A330ceo and 55 Airbus A330neo aircraft with engines and long-term TotalCare® support worth $6.2 billion. The A330ceos will be powered by Trent 700 and the A330neos will be powered by the recently-launched Trent 7000 engine. In July this year, Rolls-Royce welcomed an initial AirAsia X decision to select 50 A330neo aircraft. The airline had previously ordered 25 A330ceos, powered by another provider, and this has now been altered to ten aircraft, powered by the Trent 700. It is the large order for the Trent 7000 engine since it was launched earlier this year. A total of 132 A330neos have now been selected by airlines and lessors. The selection takes the firm AirAsia X A330ceo/A330neo fleet to 96, including aircraft sourced from operating leases, which will make the airline the large operator of the A330 family. All are powered by Rolls-Royce engines. The 68-72,000lb thrust Trent 7000 will deliver significant performance benefits compared to the current version of the Trent 700. It will improve specific fuel consumption by 10%; have twice the bypass ratio; and will halve noise.
