The company’s Personal & Commercial Banking segment provides personal and business financial services, and cards and payment solutions. This segment offers a suite of financial products and services to individual and business clients through branch, automated teller machines, online, and telephone banking networks, as well as through proprietary sales professionals. Its Wealth Management segment provides investment, trust, banking, credit, and other wealth management solutions to affluent, high net worth, and ultra high net worth clients; and asset management products and services directly to institutional and individual clients, as well as through distribution channels and third-party distributors. The company’s Insurance segment offers insurance products, such as life, health, property, casualty, and travel insurance products; and wealth accumulation solutions to individual and group clients, as well as through retail insurance branches, field sales representatives, call centers, online, independent insurance advisors, and affinity relationships. This segment also provides reinsurance products. Its Investor & Treasury Services segment offers custody, fund, and pension administration, as well as a suite of products to institutional investors. This segment also provides cash management, correspondent banking, trade finance, funding, and liquidity management services to financial institutions. The company’s Capital Markets segment offers corporate and investment banking, equity and debt origination and distribution, and structuring and trading products and services for public and private companies, institutional investors, governments, and central banks. Royal Bank of Canada was founded in 1864 and is headquartered in Toronto, Canada.

Royal Bank of Canada Announces Earnings Results for the Third Quarter and Nine Months Ended July 31, 2014

Royal Bank of Canada announced earnings results for the third quarter and nine months ended July 31, 2014. For the quarter, the company’s net income of CAD 2,378 million for the quarter ended July 31, 2014, up CAD 93 million or 4% from the prior year and up CAD 177 million or 8% from last quarter. Diluted earnings per share were CAD 1.59 against CAD 1.51 for the same period a year ago. Return on common equity was 19.6%, down from 21.3% for the same period a year ago. Adjusted net income was CAD 2,418 million against CAD 2,195 million for the same period in the last year. Adjusted diluted earnings per share were CAD 1.62 against CAD 1.46 for the same period in the last year. Adjusted ROE was 20.0% against 20.4% for the same period in the last year. Excluding specified items net income was CAD 2,418 million, up CAD 223 million or 10% from the prior year and up CAD 217 million or 10% from last quarter. The results were driven by record earnings in Canadian Banking, Capital Markets, Wealth Management and Insurance, as well as solid results in Investor & Treasury Services. For the nine months, the company’s net income was CAD 6,671 million against CAD 6,241 million for the same period a year ago. Diluted earnings per share were CAD 4.43 against CAD 4.10 for the same period a year ago. Return on common equity was 19.0% against 20.0% for the same period a year ago. Adjusted net income was CAD 6,803 million against CAD 6,182 million for the same period in the last year. Adjusted diluted earnings per share were CAD 4.52 against CAD 4.06 for the same period in the last year. Adjusted ROE was 19.4% against 19.8% for the same period in the last year.
