Sprint Nextel Corporation, through its subsidiaries, offers a range of wireless and wireline communications products and services to individual consumers, businesses, government subscribers, and resellers in the United States, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. It operates in two segments, Wireless and Wireline. The Wireless segment provides wireless data transmission services, including mobile productivity applications, such as Internet access, messaging, and email services; wireless photo and video offerings; location-based capabilities comprising asset and fleet management, dispatch services, and navigation tools; mobile entertainment applications; and local and long distance wireless voice services, as well as voicemail, call waiting, three-way calling, caller identification, directory assistance, and call forwarding services. This segment also provides voice and data services internationally through roaming arrangements; and customized design, development, implementation, and support for wireless services provided to large companies and government agencies, as well as sells accessories, such as carrying cases, hands-free devices, batteries, battery chargers, and other devices to subscribers, agents, and other third-party distributors for resale. The Wireline segment offers wireline voice and data communications, including domestic and international data communications using various protocols, such as multiprotocol label switching technologies and Internet protocol to other communications companies, and targeted business and consumer subscribers; and wholesale voice local and long distance services, and digital voice services to cable multiple system operators. This segment markets and sells its services directly. The company offers its wireless and wireline services under the Sprint, Boost Mobile, Virgin Mobile, and Assurance Wireless brands. Sprint Nextel Corporation was founded in 1899 and is headquartered in Overland Park, Kansas.

Sprint announced the availability of its all-new 4G LTE network in 22 new cities, just in time for the official start of summer. Customers in hotspots such as Miami, New Orleans, Raleigh, N.C., and Tampa, Fla., are now able to download videos, access the Internet and send photos with greater speed and reliability due to the power of Sprint 4G LTE. Additionally, new customers switching to Sprint can save up to $100 on any smartphone with a new two-year service agreement and activation and a qualifying plan. Sprint is launching 4G LTE in Baton Rouge, La.; Longview, Wash; Centralia, Wash; Miami Clarksville, Tenn; Napa, Calif; Corsicana, Texas; New Orleans; Dalton, Ga; Palatka, Fla; Dunn, N.C; Raleigh, N.C; Fond du Lac, Wis.; Sebring, Fla.; Gainesville, Fla.; St. Cloud, Minn; Henderson, N.C; St. Joseph/Benton Harbor, Mich; Kingsport, Tenn; Tampa, Fla; Lansing/East Lansing, Mich; Warsaw, Ind.
On June 7, 2013, Starburst II Inc. (the Company) designated Admiral Michael G. Mullen, USN (ret.), 66, to the board of directors of the company, conditioned on the closing of the merger of Starburst III Inc. Admiral Mullen serves on the board of directors of General Motors, and since 2012, he has served as President of MGM Consulting LLC and is the Charles and Marie Robertson Visiting Professor at the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton University. Admiral Mullen will serve on the Board as the Security Director under that certain National Security Agreement, between the Company, SoftBank Corp. and certain U.S. government parties, as amended from time to time (the National Security Agreement).
Sprint announced that retired Admiral Mike Mullen will join the company's board of directors as an independent director upon the closing of Sprint's transaction with SoftBank. Admiral Mullen also will serve as the company's Security Director. In that role, he will oversee Sprint's compliance with the company's National Security Agreement with the U.S. government and serve as the U.S. government's contact for all security-related matters. Admiral Mullen, age 66, served previously as the country's 17th Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff from October 2007 to September 2011.
