It sells its products to a network of wholesale distributors, who in turn sell to retailers, such as pubs, restaurants, grocery stores, convenience stores, package stores, stadiums, and other retail outlets. The Boston Beer Company, Inc. was founded in 1984 and is based in Boston, Massachusetts.

The Boston Beer Company Inc. reported unaudited consolidated earnings results for the third quarter and nine months ended September 27, 2014. For the quarter, the company reported net revenue of $269.73 million against $216.41 million a year ago. Operating income was $60.647 million against $42.239 million against a year ago. Income before income tax provision was $60.3 million against $42.21 million a year ago. Net income was $37.92 million or $2.79 diluted per share against $25.68 million or $1.89 diluted per share a year ago. The increase in net income was primarily due to shipment increases and lower than expected operating costs per barrel during the third quarter due to lower employee benefit costs and the timing of certain advertising promotional and selling expenses. For the nine months, the company reported net revenue of $685.19 million against $533.67 million a year ago. Operating income was $114.53 million against $83.97 million against a year ago. Income before income tax provision was $114.24 million against $83.59 million a year ago. Net income was $71.66 million or $5.29 diluted per share against $52.31 million or $3.85 diluted per share a year ago. Net cash provided by operating activities was $102.56 million against $66.87 million a year ago. Purchases of property, plant and equipment was $128.29 million against $73.1 million a year ago. For the full-year 2014, estimated earnings per diluted share remain unchanged at $6.00 to $6.40. Capital spending is now estimated to be between $150 million and $160 million, a decrease of the range from the previously communicated estimate of $160 million to $185 million. For 2014, estimated depletion growth remain unchanged at between 20% and 24%. For 2015, capital spending is now estimated to be between $80 million and $100 million. Full year 2015 gross margins are expected to be between 51% and 53%. The company estimated full year 2015 tax - effective tax rate to be approximately 38%, based on current tax laws and underlying regulations. The company also announced the impairment of long lived assets was $300,000 higher than the third quarter of 2013 due to the write-down in 2014 of Pennsylvania Brewery assets of $1.6 million compared to a write-down in 2013 of land owned by the company in Freetown, Massachusetts of $1.3 million. For the quarter, core shipment volume was approximately 1.2 million barrels, a 23% increase over the third quarter of 2013.
