Southern Community Bancshares, Inc. operates as a holding company for First Federal Savings and Loan Association of Cullman (the Association). The Association principally engages in the business of originating mortgage loans secured by first mortgages on one-to-four family residential real estate located in Cullman County, Alabama. It also originates loans for the construction of residential real estate and construction and permanent mortgage loans secured by multifamily real estate and nonresidential real estate in its primary market area. In addition to real estate lending, the company offers commercial loans and consumer loans, including loans secured by deposit accounts, automobile loans, and a limited number of other secured and unsecured loans. The company's deposit services consist of NOW accounts, money market accounts, regular passbook savings accounts, and term certificate accounts.
