OZ Minerals May Sell Sandfire Resources To Fund New Project

OZ Minerals Limited (ASX:OZL) is stepping up his hunt for a copper growth project and is prepared to use 19% stake in Sandfire Resources NL (ASX:SFR) to help fund a deal. OZ Minerals chief Terry Burgess said the Sandfire stake was a balance sheet item that he could use to help fund an acquisition if needed. "That could balance quite nicely," he said. "We are not there to make investments in a company so ultimately we need to make a decision on our holding."

Sandfire Resources NL Reports Unaudited Consolidated Earnings and Production Results for the Six Months Ended December 2013; Provides Production Guidance for Full Year of 2014

Sandfire Resources NL reported unaudited consolidated earnings and production results for the six months ended December 2013. For the period, the company reported sales revenue of $249,609,000 against $272,438,000 a year ago. Profit before net finance and income tax was $55,943,000 against $119,855,000 a year ago. Profit before income tax was $47,753,000 against $113,757,000 a year ago. Net profit for the period was $33,504,000 against $79,090,000 a year ago. Basic and diluted earnings per share attributable to ordinary equity holders were 21.5 cents compared to 51.2 cents for the same period last year. Cash flow from operating activities was $114,800,000. Basic and diluted earnings per share were 21.5 cents. Payments for property, plant and equipment was $9,907,000 compared to $52,540,000 for the same period last year. Payments for mine properties were $40,555,000 compared to $76,265,000 for the same period last year. For the six months period, the company reported copper production was 31,938 tonnes, which was in line with guidance. Gold production was 14,570 oz. The company's production guidance for fiscal year 2014 is for copper production in the range of 65-75,000 tonnes of contained copper metal and gold production in the range of 35-45,000 oz at a headline C1 cash operating cost in the range of USD 1.05-1.15/lb. Production will be weighted towards the second half of fiscal year 2014 due to expected variability in mined head grade across different stopes as part of the underground mine plan between the first half (lower head grade in the range of 4.5-5.0% Cu) and second half of fiscal year 2014 (higher head grade in the range of 5.0-6.0% Cu).
