Saft Announces Consolidated Unaudited Earnings Results for the Second Quarter and Six Months Ended June 30, 2014; Provides Sales Guidance for the Second Half Year of 2014 and Reaffirms Earnings Guidance for the Year 2014

Saft announced consolidated unaudited earnings results for the second quarter and six months ended June 30, 2014. For the quarter, the company reported sales amounted to 175.8 million, up 18.9% at constant exchange rates after sales growth of 17.9% during the first quarter. For the six months, the company reported revenues of EUR 330.1 million against EUR 284.9 million a year ago. Operating profit was EUR 31 million against EUR 26.2 million a year ago. Profit before income tax from continuing operations was EUR 28.6 million against EUR 20.7 million a year ago. Net profit from continuing operations was EUR 21.8 million against EUR 16.3 million a year ago. Net profit for the period was EUR 21.8 million against EUR 11.1 million a year ago. Net profit attributable to owners of the parent company was EUR 21.7 million against EUR 11.1 million a year ago. This result includes Saft's share in increased net profit of the ASB joint-venture at EUR 0.4 million. Earnings per diluted share were EUR 0.83 against EUR 0.44 a year ago. Earnings per diluted share of continued operations were EUR 0.83 against EUR 0.65 a year ago. EBITDA totaled EUR 50.7 million during first half year, an increase of 26.8% compared with first half year 2013. EBIT was EUR 31.5 million against EUR 20.6 million a year ago. Net cash generated by operating activities was EUR 27.8 million against EUR 24.9 million a year ago. Purchase of property, plant and equipment was EUR 14.3 million against EUR 22.3 million a year ago. Purchase of intangible assets was EUR 3.1 million against EUR 3.6 million a year ago. The company announced that will continue to deliver growing sales in second half year of 2014, although the comparable will be more challenging from third quarter, annual sales and profitability guidance confirmed for the year 2014.

Saft Receives Contract from Gulfstream Aerospace Corporation

Saft has been awarded two exclusive multi-year, multi-million-dollar supply contracts by Gulfstream Aerospace Corporation. Under the agreement, Saft will deliver Ultra Low Maintenance (ULM(R)) technology batteries to Gulfstream Aerospace for two business jets, the Gulfstream G650(R) and Gulfstream G550(R). Deliveries for the contract, signed in late 2013, began in January. Saft will continue to supply its 5317CH-1, 21-cell CVH530KA ULM(R) battery. The 5317CH-1 battery has proven successful since the aircraft's certification in 1997. Since the technology was introduced in the Gulfstream GV(R), most new commercial and military aircraft have been developed and certified powered by Saft's ULM(R) batteries. Saft's 5317CH-1 ULM(R) technology battery reduces operating costs by significantly increasing the time between maintenance. The ULM(R) battery, backed by robust and reliable technology, will provide start APU, emergency power, power avionics, backup power for flight controls and has the ability to fill in electrical system loads as needed. The battery provides 25.2 V of power and has a capacity of 53Ah. The Saft 5317CH-1 batteries are also used in the Gulfstream GV-SP(R) and G500(R).

Saft Wins a Contract from DCNS for Electrochemical Stacks for PB-61 Powering F21 Torpedoes

Saft has been awarded a multi-million Euro torpedo electrochemical stacks contract by DCNS. Under this long-term contract, Saft will supply silver oxide-aluminium (AgO-Al) electrochemical stacks for PB-61 powering heavyweight F21 torpedoes. Saft will supply silver oxide-aluminium (AgO-Al) electrochemical stacks for PB-61 powering heavyweight F21 torpedoes. DCNS has designed the F21 to be the most advanced torpedo on the world market, and the high energy density AgO-Al seawater activated primary electrochemical stack supplied by Saft delivers the high power essential to achieve a high maximum speed over an extended range. The F21 has a range greater than 50 km and a top speed in excess of 90 km/h. The AgO-Al electrochemical stacks deliver the high power essential to achieve a high maximum speed over an extended range and propel the 1.6 ton, 6 m long and 0.53 m diameter torpedo at different depths without any degradation. The electrochemical stack also powers the onboard electronic control and guidance. AgO-Al battery technology is unique to Saft and was developed with DCNS specifically to propel heavyweight and lightweight torpedoes. It delivers twice as much energy and power as conventional silver-zinc batteries for the same mass and volume.
