Sharp Corporation manufactures and sells consumer/information products and electronic components in Japan and internationally. The company’s consumer/information products comprise audio-visual and communication equipment, including LCD color televisions, color televisions, projectors, DVD recorders and players, Blu-ray disc recorders and players, mobile communications handsets, mobile phones, personal computers, electronic dictionaries, calculators, facsimiles, telephones, and personal handy-phone system terminals. Its consumer/information products also include health and environment equipment consisting of refrigerators, steam and microwave ovens, air conditioners, washing machines, vacuum cleaners, air purifiers, dehumidifiers, humidifiers, electric heaters, small cooking appliances, plasma cluster ion generators, LED lights, and solar-powered LED lights; and information equipment comprising POS systems, handy data terminals, electronic cash registers, LCD color monitors, information displays, digital multifunction printers, options and consumables, software, FA equipment, and ultrasonic cleaners. Sharp Corporation’s electronic components include LCDs, such as TFT LCD, duty LCD, and system LCD modules; solar cells consisting of crystalline solar and thin-film solar cells; and other electronic devices, such as CCD/CMOS imagers, LSIs for LCDs, microprocessors, flash memory, combination memory products, analog ICs, components for satellite broadcasting, terrestrial digital tuners, RF modules, network components, laser diodes, LEDs, optical pickups, optical sensors, components for optical communications, regulators, and switching power supplies. The company was formerly known as Hayakawa Electric Industry Co., Ltd. and changed its name to Sharp Corporation in January 1970. Sharp Corporation was founded in 1912 and is headquartered in Osaka, Japan.

Sharp Corp. announced that it will launch liquid crystal display television sets which can show images with a quality similar to that of so-called 4K ultrahigh-definition TVs in the Chinese market at the end of February 2014. the company released the Aquos Quattron Pro series TVs in the domestic market in autumn 2013 and in North America last month. They are much less expensive than 4K TVs. By launching the Aquos Quattron Pro in China as well, Sharp aims to improve earnings at its TV division.

Sharp Corporation Reports Solar Business Earnings Results for the Third Quarter and Nine Months Ended December 31, 2013

Sharp Corporation reported solar business earnings results for the third quarter and nine months ended December 31, 2013. For the period, the company reported its solar business revenues surge by 85.8% on the year to JPY 276.86 billion (USD 2.7 billion /EUR 2 billion). The significant improvement was the result of higher sales to the Japanese market, helped by high demand from both residential and megawatt scale solar projects. The jump in sales helped the solar segment turn to an operating profit of JPY 15.84 billion in the nine months to end-December from a loss of JPY 14.23 billion a year ago. In its third fiscal quarter through December 2013, the company saw solar revenues rise to JPY 108.5 billion from JPY 83.9 billion in the previous quarter and from JPY 55.9 billion a year before.
