Sime Darby Berhad, an investment holding company, is engaged in the plantation, industrial equipment, motors, property, energy and utilities, and other businesses worldwide. The company’s Plantation segment produces and markets fresh fruit bunches, crude palm oil, palm kernel, and rubber; refines and markets palm oil products; manufactures and distributes oils and fats, palm oil-based biodiesels, oleochemicals, and nutraceuticals; produces and markets a range of fast moving consumer goods products, such as cooking oil, juices, and cooking sauces; and manages estates. Its Industrial segment is engaged in the sale, rental, and servicing of heavy equipment, including new machines, engines, or used equipment for the construction, mining, quarry, oil and gas, power systems, and forestry sectors. The company's Motors segment is involved in importing, assembling, distributing, and retailing passenger and commercial vehicles; and providing after-sale services. Its Property segment is engaged in developing and marketing residential, commercial, and industrial properties; the development of land; and the ownership and management of hospitality and leisure assets that include hotels, service apartments, golf courses, and a convention centre. The company’s Energy & Utilities segment is involved in the system integration and sale of engineering products and services; and power generation and water management activities, as well as the provision of trading services, and ports and logistics services. In addition, the company is engaged in the insurance brokerage business. The company was founded in 1910 and is headquartered in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Sime Darby Berhad is a subsidiary of Permodalan Nasional Berhad.

Suitors Reportedly Eyes 51% Stake In Vasan Healthcare

Sime Darby Berhad (KLSE:SIME), Netcare Limited. (JSE:NTC), The Carlyle Group LP (NasdaqGS:CG), Apax Partners LLP and Warburg Pincus LLC are in talks with GIC Pte. Ltd., Sequoia Capital, Westbridge Capital and AM Arun regarding acquiring 51% stake in Vasan Healthcare Private Limited. The expected price for the stake is about INR 35.7 billion, one of the people said. The person added that Sime Darby is ahead in the discussions. GIC had put in $100 million for a 22% stake, while Sequoia owns 18% and Westbridge 3% own stake in Vasan Healthcare. Arun holds a 57% stake in the company. "Around 51% will be sold with the promoter also selling part of his stake," a second person involved in the deal said.

Sime Darby Berhad announced production results for the month of June 2014. The company reported fresh fruit bunches of 755,378 MT, crude palm oil of 188,139 MT and palm kernel of 41,422 MT for the month of June 2014.

Sources Say FGV, Sime, Wilmar Shortlisted For Stake Sale Of NBPO

Felda Global Ventures Holdings Berhad (KLSE:FGV) (FGV), Sime Darby Berhad (KLSE:SIME), and Wilmar International Limited (SGX:F34) have been shortlisted from the list of seven bidders for acquiring 49% stake in New Britain Palm Oil Limited (LSE:NBPO) (NBPO) from Kulim (Malaysia) Berhad (KLSE:KULIM), sources close to the matter stated. According to the news report, a possible deal is worth about MYR 3 billion. On July 6, 2014, a source told The Edge Financial Daily, “Today (yesterday) is the last day for bid submission. Seven parties have expressed their interest to acquire the major stake in NBPOL, but only four have been shortlisted including FGV, Sime Darby and Wilmar.” He added that an announcement regarding the winning bid could be be made within two weeks. The source further mentioned that RHB Bank Bhd was appointed by Kulim for assisting in a possible sale. It was earlier reported that seven firms had expressed interest, including Kuala Lumpur Kepong Berhad (KLSE:KLK) (KLK), IOI Corp.Bhd (KLSE:IOICORP), PT Sinar Mas Group, and RGE Group for the stake in NBPOL. Source said that KLK and IOI Corp did not submit their bids.
