Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corp. Announces Unaudited Consolidated Earnings Results for the Third Quarter Ended September 30, 2014; Provides Earnings Guidance for the Fourth Quarter and Capital Expenditure Guidance for the Full Year of Fiscal 2014

Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corp. announced unaudited consolidated earnings results for the third quarter ended September 30, 2014. For the quarter, the company announced revenue of $521,646,000 compared to $511,344,000 for the same period a year ago. Profit from operation was $40,820,000 compared to $58,192,000 for the same period a year ago. Profit before tax was $48,660,000 compared to $57,087,000 for the same period a year ago. Profit for the period was $48,678,000 compared to $57,180,000 for the same period a year ago. Profit for the period attributable to owners of the company was $47,520,000 compared to $56,801,000 for the same period a year ago. Earnings per ordinary ADS holders attributable to the company, diluted was $0.07 compared to $0.08 for the same period a year ago. Non-GAAP revenue was $521,646,000 compared to $511,344,000 for the same period a year ago. Net cash from operating activities was $134,210,000 compared to $118,635,000 for the same period a year ago. Payments for property, plant and equipment was $212,317,000 compared to $108,683,000 for the same period a year ago. Payments for intangible assets were $14,682,000 compared to $9,948,000 for the same period a year ago. The company provided earnings guidance for the fourth quarter and capital expenditure guidance for the full year of fiscal 2014. For the fourth quarter of 2014, revenue is expected to decrease by 5% to 9% quarter over quarter and gross margin is expected to range from 19.5% to 22.5%. The planned 2014 capital expenditures for foundry operations are down from approximately $1.1 billion to approximately $1.0 billion, of which about $430 million instead of the previously estimated $570 million is for Semiconductor Manufacturing North China (Beijing) Corporation. The decrease in capital expenditures is mainly because of some delay in the equipment move-in schedule for Semiconductor Manufacturing North China (Beijing) Corporation. The planned 2014 capital expenditures for non-foundry operations, mainly for the construction of living quarters, are down from approximately $110 million to approximately $50 million. The company plans to rent out or sell these living quarter units to employees in the future.
