It is also involved in the distribution of steel and metal products in northern Europe; and the provision of value added services, such as product development, processing, logistics, and aftermarket services. The company offers its products to heavy transport, engineering and mechanical engineering, mining and mining equipment, automotive, energy, heavy machinery, and construction equipment industries. It operates in the Middle East, Africa, North America, Latin America, Australia, New Zealand, Asia, and Europe. SSAB AB was founded in 1978 and is headquartered in Stockholm, Sweden.

SSAB to Expand its Facility in Montpelier, Iowa, U.S

SSAB announced that it is looking to expand its facility in Montpelier, Iowa, U.S. The potential expansion would increase melting and casting capabilities by up to 1.2 million tons above current melting capacity. This represents roughly an additional 800,000 tons per year of finished product along with 400,000 tons of melting capacity to be transferred as slab to the company's Mobile facility for rolling and finishing. The company has entered into an agreement with an engineering firm to undertake a study to identify the requirements related to expansion. The project would result in the Montpelier facility increasing its capacity to as much as 2.1 million finished tons per year.

SSAB AB Appoints Per Olof Stark as Future Head of Special Steels Business

SSAB AB announced the appointment of Per Olof Stark as the future head of the Special Steels business (Quenched & Tempered Steels) in the new SSAB which is planned following a combination of SSAB and Rautaruukki. In connection with the announcement, Melker Jernberg was appointed as head of the planned special steels division in the combined company. Also, in May 2014, it was announced that Jernberg is leaving SSAB to take up the position of CEO and president of Haganas. As a result, the company has now appointed Stark to succeed Jernberg in the future position as head of the special steels business. Reportedly, Jernberg will remain in his current position as president and head of Business Area SSAB EMEA until the combination with Ruukki can be completed and the new organization is in place. Most recently, Stark, who has been with SSAB since 1983, has been head of the SSAB Wear Services business unit, a position he has held since 2013.

Melker Jernberg to Leave from SSAB as an Executive Vice President and Head of Business Area SSAB EMEA from November 1, 2014

SSAB's Executive Vice President & Head of Business Area SSAB EMEA, Melker Jernberg, is to leave SSAB on November 1, 2014 to take up the position of President and CEO at Höganäs. Melker Jernberg has been employed at SSAB since 2011 as Executive Vice President and Head of Business Area SSAB EMEA and has during that time been a member of SSAB's Group Executive Committee.
