Sumitomo Electric Industries Launches Concentrator Solar Cell Module

Sumitomo Electric Industries has commercialized a solar cell module equipped with a concentrator system and delivered the first product to the Kibana Campus of the University of Miyazaki. The solar cell module uses small-size multi-junction (MJ) compound semiconductor photovoltaic (PV) cells and collects light with a Fresnel lens. The thickness and weight of the module are about 100 mm and less than 10 kg, respectively. On the top of a pillar whose height is 8 m, 64 modules are installed. The 64 modules measure 7 x 6m and have a rated output of 7.5 kW or higher.

Sumitomo Electric Industries Ltd. Announces New DWDM devices

Sumitomo Electric Industries Ltd. announced its next generation of dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) devices which are optimized for use in coherent applications. Sumitomo Electric's Micro-ITLA integrates its proprietary laser technology in a miniaturized package that offers all the benefits of the industry standard ITLA in a form-factor that is three times smaller. The Micro-ITLA offers narrower spectral line width and 20% less power consumption. In addition, Sumitomo Electric will showcase its Small Intradyne Coherent Receiver (ICR) for 100G DP-QPSK or 200G DP-16QAM transmission systems. The small form factor (15 x 26 x 5.5 mm package) coherent receiver with an InP-based monolithically integrated 90 degree hybrid mixer makes use of Sumitomo Electric's portfolio of high speed technologies. Sumitomo Electric will also feature its InP Mach-Zehnder-Modulator (MZM) delivering the benefits of coherent technology to next generation metro and long haul markets. The InP MZM delivers high density and low power dissipation that customers need in order to drive coherent technology into next generation applications.

Sumitomo Electric Industries, Ltd. Demonstrates High-Speed Communications Solutions Including the Next Generation of CFP4 Optical Modules

Sumitomo Electric Industries Ltd. demonstrated high-speed communications solutions including the next generation of CFP4 optical modules. Sumitomo Electric introduced the industry's first CFP4 LR4 at OFC 2014 in San Francisco, CA. The CFP4 will quadruple the front panel port density compared to CFP and offer low power consumption enabling high-density line-card design. Applications include core routers to end of row switches for up to 10 km distance.
