Additionally, it provides various financial services, including life and non-life insurance, savings products, and loans; engages in the research, development, design, production, marketing, sale, distribution, and servicing of mobile phones, accessories, and applications, as well as original equipment manufacture of mobile phones; offers Blu-ray, DVD, and CD media replication services; and provides Internet broadband network services to subscribers. The company was formerly known as Tokyo Tsushin Kogyo Kabushiki Kaisha and changed its name to Sony Corporation in 1958. Sony Corporation was founded in 1946 and is headquartered in Tokyo, Japan.

Sony Corporation and Hydro-Quebec announced that they have agreed to establish a joint venture to research and develop a large-scale energy storage system for power grids. The new company will utilize Sony's control technologies for highly safe, reliable, olivine-type lithium-ion iron phosphate rechargeable batteries and highly scalable module systems, together with Hydro-Quebec's operation and control technologies for electric power supplies as well as its lithium-ion battery material technology. By combining these strengths, the new company intends to research and develop a highly safe and reliable system for large-scale applications, as well as battery material technology suitable for use within electric power systems, and explore their use in a wide variety of applications, such as meeting excess demand during peak times, and the integrating renewable energy sources into power grids.

VITEC Partners with Sony Corporation to Unveil its 4K IPTV Solution for Multicast Distribution of Ultra HD Video

VITEC has partnered with Sony Corporation to unveil its new 4K IPTV solution for multicast distribution of ultra HD video. VITEC's MGES-6000 hardware encoding blade ingests 4K content from professional 4K cameras using 4xHD-SDI ports, encodes and streams it over IP. VITEC's turn-key 4K solution also includes a 4K desktop player with SDK that can be integrated into third-party applications for viewing 4K content on desktops, laptops and embedded media platforms.

Sony Corp. to Launch New 4K TVs in Japan

Sony Corp. announced that it will launch new Bravia liquid crystal display televisions with 4K high-definition technology in Japan next month. Sony's launch of new 4K models, which have four times the resolution of conventional full high-definition TVs, is expected to intensify competition among major electronics makers. Sony will launch eight new models with screen sizes of 49 to 85 inches. The market price of the 49-inch model, the company's smallest ever 4K TV, is estimated at around CNY 350,000, and that of the 85-inch model at around CNY 2.16 million.
