Tenaga Nasional Berhad principally engages in the generation, transmission, distribution, and sale of electricity in Malaysia. The company operates six thermal stations and three hydroelectric schemes, as well as manages and operates the National Grid, which is connected to Thailand’s transmission system in the north and Singapore’s transmission system in the south. It also transmits electricity from power generators to distributors and industrial customers. In addition, the company plans, designs, constructs, operates, and maintains the nation’s electricity supply system to provide electricity to all segments of customers. Further, it manufactures and sells distribution, generator, earthing, and power transformers; high and medium voltage switchgears; and bare conductors, power cables, aluminum and alloy rods, and optical ground wires. Additionally, the company offers project management and turnkey contracting of transmission and distribution substations; and training in engineering, information technology, business management, and related areas; preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, remanufacturing of transformers, installation, testing, and commissioning of transformers. It also provides maintenance services, repairs and refurbishments, testing and diagnostic services, and project management; supplies fuel and coal for power generation; and ownership, engineering, procurement, construction, and project financing of district cooling systems projects. Tenaga Nasional Berhad was founded in 1949 and is headquartered in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Tenaga Nasional Berhad Proposes Final Dividend, for the Period Ended August 31, 2014; Reports Audited Consolidated Earnings Results for the Fourth Quarter and Full Year Ended August 31, 2014

The Board of Directors of Tenaga Nasional Berhad has proposed a final single-tier dividend of 19.0 sen per ordinary share in respect of the period ended August 31, 2014 subject to approval at the Annual General Meeting. The company reported audited consolidated earnings results for the fourth quarter and full year ended August 31, 2014. For the quarter, the company reported revenue of MYR 11,723.4 million compared to revenue of MYR 9,502.9 million for the same period a year ago. Operating profit was MYR 2,278 million compared to MYR 956.7 million last year. Profit from ordinary activities before taxation was MYR 2,309.8 million compared to MYR 228.5 million last year. Profit attributable to the owners of the company was MYR 1,355.9 million or 24.03 sen per diluted share compared to MYR 927.9 million or 16.62 sen per diluted share last year. For the year, the company reported revenue of MYR 42,792.4 million compared to revenue of MYR 37,130.7 million for the same period a year ago. Operating profit was MYR 7,181.0 million compared to MYR 5,906.9 million last year. Profit from ordinary activities before taxation was MYR 7,114.7 million compared to MYR 5,925.1 million last year. Profit attributable to the owners of the company was MYR 6,467.0 million or 114.59 sen per diluted share compared to MYR 5,356.2 million or 95.96 sen per diluted share last year. This was mainly due to the increase in overall revenue of 15.2% as compared to a lower increase in operating expenses of 13.9%, contributed by lower average coal price experienced during the period of USD 75.4 per metric tonne as compared to USD 83.6 per metric tonne in the previous period. Net cash generated from operating activities was MYR 10,437.9 million compared to MYR 9,687.1 million last year. Purchases of property, plant and equipment was MYR 10,006.5 million compared to MYR 8,570.3 million last year.

Tenaga Nasional Bhd to Proceed with Track 4A Power Plant

Tenaga Nasional Bhd will proceed with the Track 4A power plant at Pasir Gudang and expects to finalize the project cost with the engineering, procurement and construction contractors by early next month. The 1,000-1,400 megawatt gas power plant has a condition set by the EC for the levelised tariff to be comparable to the 1,071 MW Prai combined power plant awarded in 2012. The project was initially awarded to a consortium comprising YTL Power Corp. Bhd, SIPP and TNB via direct negotiations, and is estimated to cost between MYR 11 billion and MYR 13 billion. But YTL Power later withdrew from the consortium. On the status of Janamanjung Unit 4 and Unit 5 projects, Azman said it had reached 99% and 19% completion respectively, with the estimated commercial operation date set for March 31 next year and October 1, 2017, respectively. TNB's hydro power plant in Ulu Jelai is 64% complete and scheduled for delivery in two stages, that is, December 2015 and March 2016, respectively. Another hydro plant in Hulu Terengganu is 85% ready. It will also be delivered in two stages - in September and December next year.
