The Tata Power Company Limited, an integrated power company, together with its subsidiaries, engages in the generation, transmission, distribution, and trade of electricity primarily in India. It generates electricity from various energy sources, such as coal, gas, oil, hydroelectric, solar, wind, and geothermal energy. The company has an installed generation capacity of 6099 MW; and 1,085 circuit kilometers of transmission network in Mumbai operations area. In addition, it offers solar equipment; provides project contracts/infrastructure management services; and engages in coal bed methane development, investment, shipping, property development, and coal mining and trading businesses. The company was founded in 1915 and is based in Mumbai, India.

The Tata Power Company Limited (BSE:500400) intends to acquire power projects abroad. Tata Power is eyeing a number of power projects abroad, including in Africa and Indonesia. The company is eyeing a slew of hydro projects in Africa and bidding for projects in Indonesia. "We're mostly looking for small projects of around 200 MW in the hydro space," a top Tata Power official told the Financial Express. "The areas we're looking at include Zambia and South Africa. The projects will cost around $1.5 million per MW to set up," he added.
The Tata Power Company Limited (BSE:500400) is seeking to list its unit Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited in next financial year. Rahul Shah, Chief of Business Development and Renewables, said We’re housing all of our new renewable assets in a separate company to allow us to raise funds. Tata Power expects the unit to attract interest once its total generation capacity reaches about 300 megawatts, probably in the next financial year, he added. Shares of Tata Power rose 0.2% to INR 94.20.
The Tata Power Company Limited has commissioned a 21-MW wind power project in Rajasthan. The company has signed an agreement to install 30 MW in the state. With this, the total power generation capacity of the company stands at 8521 MW. Of this, thermal power generation capacity accounts for 7648 MW and 873 MW in hydro, wind and solar generation capacities. This strengthens the companies position as the integrated power company in the country. The company leads in the wind generation segment with an operating capacity of 397 MW. The projects are spread across five states- Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Rajasthan and Karnataka. Besides, Cennergi, a joint venture between Tata Power and Exxaro Resources Ltd, South Africa has been selected as the 'Preferred Bidder' for the 139 MW Amakhala Wind Farm project and the 95 MW Tsitsikamma Wind Farm project by the Department of Energy, South Africa.
