The Tata Power Company Limited is engaged in the generation, transmission, distribution, and trading of electricity primarily in India. It operates through four segments: Generation; Transmission and Distribution; Fuel and Logistics; and Power Trading and Other Businesses. The company generates electricity primarily through coal, oil and gas, hydro, wind, solar, and waste heat. As of June 2, 2014, it owned and operated power stations with gross installed capacity of approximately 8,585 megawatts. The company’s transmission network comprises approximately 1,100 circuit kilometer of 220kV/110 kV lines; and 20 receiving stations. It distributes its power to railways, refineries, and other industrial and commercial complexes. The company also trades power; and designs and develops electronic products and systems for the defense sector. Its electronic products and systems include display consoles; servo controllers and associated mechanical structures; a range of software products for real-time/mission-critical decision-support applications; rugged computers and special purpose computers; training simulators for locomotives, power plants, and air traffic control; electronic warfare control centers for the army; combat systems for the navy; automatic data handling air defense systems; and automotive electrical system for the army’s main battle tanks. In addition, the company manufactures and sells solar photovoltaic cells and modules; and provides engineering, procurement, and construction services, as well as operations and management services to solar project developers. Further, it provides operation and maintenance, technical and quality audit, consultancy, transmission and distribution, gas insulated switch gear hipot and field testing, and project management services; and is involved in project contracts/infrastructure management, coal bed methane, investment, and property development activities. The company was founded in 1915 and is based in Mumbai, India.

Tata Power Announces the Commissioning of the Final 8 MW of the 32 MW Wind Farm at Girijashankarwadi in Maharashtra

Tata Power announced the commissioning of the final 8 MW of the 32 MW wind farm at Girijashankarwadi in Maharashtra. The wind farm uses the 2 MW wind turbine from Kenersys India. With this commissioning, Tata Power's total wind generation capacity stands at 470.6 MW, with wind farms located across five states - Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. Tata Power has developed this project through its 100% subsidiary, Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL). TPREL also has a further 300 MW of wind capacity under development and construction in the states of Maharashtra, Gujarat and Rajasthan. The wind farm is expected to generate approximately 62 MUs per year which will be procured by Tata Power-Distribution towards fulfilment of its Renewable Purchase Obligations (RPO). With this commissioning, Tata Power's total generation capacity stands at 8623 MW.

Several Companies Mulls Acquisitions

Several entities intend to pursue acquisitions. Adani Power Limited (BSE:533096), JSW Energy Limited (BSE:533148), The Tata Power Company Limited (BSE:500400) and CESC Limited (BSE:500084) are scouting around to buy assets of debt-laden companies.

Lanco And GMR Reportedly Searches Buyers For Their Plants

Lanco Infratech Limited (BSE:532778) and GMR Infrastructure Limited (BSE:532754) intends to sell their plants. The Tata Power Company Limited (BSE:500400), CESC Limited (BSE:500084) and JSW Energy Limited (BSE:533148) are eyeing Lanco's 1200 MW Anpara in U.P. and 1920 MW Amarkantak proj in Chhattisgarh. GMR is seeking buyers for its power assets, an investment banker pointed out. JSW Energy's spokesperson said, "JSW Energy Limited continues to evaluate various opportunities as part of its growth strategy. However, we are not in any conclusive discussions for any particular project." Tata Power, CESC, Lanco and GMR did not respond to ET.
