tata power co ltd (TPWR) Key Developments

Tata Power Eyes Assets For Acquisition

The Tata Power Company Limited (BSE:500400) is scouting for investment opportunities in select overseas geographies and eyeing assets available for acquisition due to financial stress in power sector, reported PTI. Due to the current financial stress in the power sector, there are assets which may be available for acquisition. Tata Power is evaluating and will continue to evaluate opportunities to acquire projects in various stages of development across the country. Besides, Tata Power continues to evaluate investment opportunities in Africa, Turkey, Middle East, South East Asia and the SAARC. While Indian market continues to remain the primary focus of business for Tata Power, it has started making investments into projects in select international geographies to strengthen and diversify its portfolio and for greater impetus for growth.

Tata Power to Use Natural Esters in its Electrical Distribution Transformers

Tata Power will be the first utility in India to incorporate a natural ester, versus petroleum-based, dielectric fluid into its electrical transformer systems. All of Tata Power's new Package Substations will be filled with Cargill's FR3 fluid, the natural ester-based dielectric fluid that is currently installed in over 600,000 transformers on six continents. "Demand for solutions like FR3 fluid is increasing because power companies are seeking effective solutions that combine operational efficiencies and improved performance with environmental benefits. In February 2014, Cargill announced CPFL Energia in Sao Paulo Brazil, is migrating its entire distribution network to FR3 fluid-filled transformers. Recently, it was the first Indian power company to energize a 1 MVA Transformer with FR3 fluid. Tata Power thoroughly evaluated FR3 fluid and chose the natural ester solution for three key reasons: Improved fire safety - With more than twice the flash and fire point as mineral oil and self-extinguishing properties, FR3 fluid provides improved fire safety for the densely populated areas within Tata Power's service area. Environmental benefits - FR3 fluid is biodegradable as well as non-toxic and non-hazardous in soil and water. Reduced carbon footprint - As FR3 fluid is made from a renewable resource, it is carbon neutral and results in 56 times less carbon emissions less than mineral oil. Tata Power will work with Cargill and with transformer manufacturing partners, Schneider Electric, ABB, and Raychem RPG, on integrating FR3 fluid into its distribution network.

Tata Power Unveils New Initiatives to Enhance Distribution Network in Mumbai

Tata Power has unveiled new initiatives such as, high voltage distribution system, or HVDS, Electrical House, or E House, and Underground Feeder Pillar, or Link Box, to reduce space constraint and installation time, and enhance safety of its distribution network in Mumbai. The HVDS deploys pole mounted transformers with associated Low Voltage (LV) Distribution. The LV coaxial service cables and the LV connector system are provided with plug-in type design thereby reducing technical losses and enhanced safety features coupled with higher reliability. These technological introductions for HV/LV distribution system are essentially tool free and eliminate the risk of errors in the field. The E House helps to reduce space and installation time for 33/11 kV Grid Substations. E House is a prefabricated enclosure housing the 33kV/11 kV switchgear with associated auxiliaries installed, tested and ready to be commissioned once delivered to site. The installation of Underground Feeder Pillar (Link Box) along with a new generation compact & fully insulated service pillar into the LV distribution network will help to enhance safety and cut down the electrical losses, eliminate the menace of power theft and pilferages in congested areas where space is a constraint.
