Transnational Corporation of Nigeria Plc, together with the subsidiaries, operates in hospitality, agriculture, and energy sectors primarily in Nigeria. It operates through four segments: Hospitality, Agriculture, Energy, and Corporate Center. The company operates Transcorp Hilton Hotel, a 670-room 5-star hotel in Abuja; and Transcorps Hotels, Calabar, a 146-room hotel in Calabar. It also produces and distributes orange and pineapple, and mango puree, as well as orange peel oil for industrial markets. In addition, the company is involved in upstream petroleum exploration activities. Further, it is engaged in the exploration, refining, and marketing of oil and gas, as well as in providing consultancy services; distribution of global systems for mobile; cultivating soil and growing food, cash, and fodder crops; generation, distribution, and sale of power; and provision of Internet services, including browsing and email services; car rental, hiring, and protocol services; and general maritime operations. Additionally, the company is involved in managing cafeterias, eateries, dinners, canteens cafes, pizzerias, snack bars, etc.; the sale and purchase of wholesale and retail commodities; mining, refining, and supplying mining produce; and acting as building contractors, decorators, merchants, and dealers in stone, sand, lime, iron, etc., as well as operates as dealer in agricultural and mineral products. Transnational Corporation of Nigeria Plc was incorporated in 2004 and is based in Lagos, Nigeria.

For the period, group profit before tax stood at NGN 3.77 billion for the first quarter ended March 31, 2014 which represents 187% increase from corresponding period in 2013. Gross earnings for the group stood at NGN 11.15 billion which represents 152% growth from first quarter of 2013 results of NGN 4.42 billion. Group PBT for the period of NGN 3.77 billion represents 187% increase on PBT of NGN 1.31 billion achieved for first quarter of 2013. Group profit after tax grew by 278% from NGN 834 million in first quarter of 2013 to NGN 3.15 billion for period under review.

For the quarter, the company reported group profit before tax (‘PBT’) stood at NGN 3.77 billion, which represents 187% increase from corresponding period in 2013. Gross earnings for the group stood at NGN 11.15 billion which represents 152% growth from first quarter 2013 results of NGN 4.42 billion. Group profit after tax ('PAT') grew by 278% from NGN 834 million in first quarter of 2013 to NGN 3.15 billion for period under review.

Suitors Reportedly Shorlisted For Nigerian Energy Assets

Glencore Xstrata plc (LSE:GLEN) and Mercuria Energy Group Limited have been shortlisted to make final bids on Nigerian energy assets worth around $3 billion, sources close to the process said. Shell is selling its 30% stake in four oil blocks, Total SA (ENXTPA:FP) is divesting 10%, Eni SpA (BIT:ENI) is selling 5% stake and Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) owns the remaining 55% stake. Royal Dutch Shell plc (ENXTAM:RDSA) is also selling the 97-km (60-mile) Nembe Creek oil pipeline. February 18, 2014 is the due date for bids. Five sources revealed that the combined 45% stake in blocks OML 18, 24, 25 and 29 is worth around $3 billion. 45% stake in OML 29 could earn $1.5 billion to $2 billion, the sources said. Glencore is bidding in a consortium and Seplat Petroleum Development Company Ltd. is among the shortlisted bidders, sources said. Aliko Dangote is part of a shortlisted consortium, two of the sources said. Greenacres Energy Company Ltd and Oracle Energy Corp. (TSXV:OEC) have together to bid on the blocks, the sources said. Firms that have done deals on Shell blocks previously are also in the mix, sources added. They added that Heritage Oil Plc (LSE:HOIL) in joint venture with Bayelsa Oil Co., Ltd. and Petrobay International Ltd. Eland Oil and Gas PLC (AIM:ELA) has been shortlisted too. First Exploration & Petroleum Development Co, Ltd, Sahara Energy Ltd. (TSXV:SAH), South Atlantic Petroleum Ltd. and Transnational Corporation of Nigeria Plc (NGSE:TRANSCORP) are separately bidding as is a consortium involving Taleveras Group Company and Aiteo Group, the sources said.
