Trimble Introduces Apple iOS Support in Latest Release of its ThingMagic Mercury API

Trimble announced the addition of Apple iOS compatibility enhancements to the ThingMagic(R) Mercury(R) API software development kit. The latest enhancements to the Mercury API address the growing demand from end users who want to use consumer mobile devices smartphones and tablets as an alternative to handheld computers for RFID applications. The addition of iOS support represents the next step in expanding the breadth of application uses for ThingMagic's Mercury API, an extensive software development kit that offers a consistent programmatic interface across all ThingMagic finished and embedded reader products. Using a smartphone or tablet with an RFID reader attached as a sled, dongle or connected via Bluetooth offers an attractive solution to developers and users compared to costly handheld computers. The value in opening up the development possibilities clears the way for more applications and supports the trend toward enabling a true Internet of Things. The Mercury API software development kit is a blanket offering for customers of all ThingMagic fixed and embedded readers. In addition, its inclusion with products such as the Mercury xPRESS flexible development platform offers a more comprehensive approach to delivering RFID solutions to a wider variety of vertical markets. Having more development options can enable new projects in retail, medical, manufacturing, logistics and transportation, among other markets that have made limited use of RFID. The ThingMagic Mercury API removes complexities and speeds time to deployment for system integrators and OEMs developing solutions with ThingMagic readers and embedded modules, who will now benefit from support of a greater breadth of operating systems. Intuitively designed and supported by a significant volume of documentation, the Mercury API requires little RFID expertise and enables developers to rapidly design and test: Reader and tag commands; advanced read functionality such as setting antennas, protocols and filtering criteria; Advanced tag operations such as killing and locking tags; privacy and security features; and performance and memory optimization.

Trimble Adds Vegetation Health Monitoring Service to its Connected Farm Solution

Trimble announced that it is adding another new agronomic service to its Connected Farm(TM) solution. The PurePixel(TM) Precision Vegetation Health Solution provides specialized processing of multi-spectral images used for crop health analysis. Field images processed with PurePixel technology provide farmers and their trusted advisors with a visual representation of the selected field's crop health or maturity level based on a color-coded index. Since PurePixel filters out non-crop artifacts such as soil, shadows, and surface wetness, it can be used on fields with newly emerged vegetation or fields with full crop canopy. PurePixel produces a vegetation vigor index map, which is a calibrated representation of vegetation health that can be used to track crop growth and measure the magnitude of difference between areas. Because PurePixel maps use a calibrated index, users can compare multiple images of the same area and visually detect changes in crop health over time. This feature is especially useful for monitoring expected progress in crop growth or improvements in crop health when treating underperforming areas within fields. PurePixel allows users to: Save time by quickly viewing large areas and identifying specific locations where issues may be present, enabling the farmer or trusted advisor to travel only to the targeted areas versus scouting the entire field. Make timely early-season decisions on newly emerged crop with PurePixel's ability to significantly reduce image noise enabling critical decisions to be made prior to full crop canopy. Identify differences in crop health and maturity even when crop health is generally strong. Assess changes in canopy size and quality by analyzing multiple PurePixel maps from the same field within a season or over several seasons. PurePixel is an additional product Trimble has added to its newly launched agronomic suite of services. These services also include the Soil Information System(TM) (SIS) solution, a revolutionary soil analysis mapping technology. When PurePixel is used in conjunction with SIS, the savings can be significant.

Trimble Introduces Document Controller Standard for Integrated 2D and 3D Building Construction Change Management

Trimble announced Trimble Document Controller Standard, a powerful and easy-to-use virtual construction management application that automates change detection between design iterations in both 2D design drawing sets and in 3D models created using Building Information Modeling (BIM) software. The new application allows project stakeholders to quickly understand design changes to better anticipate and mitigate issues that might increase cost or risk. Document Controller Standard combines document management and constructability analysis capabilities--previously delivered only through Trimble's Vico Office Suite for 5D BIM. While Vico Office extends the basic 3D model with analysis of constructability materials, labor, scheduling and costs, Document Controller Standard is a standalone 2D/3D application designed for construction firms that simply need a better way to manage drawings and models. Document Controller Standard capabilities include: 2D/3D change management -- Design inputs from Tekla, SketchUp, ArchiCAD, Revit, CAD-Duct, or the IFC and 3D DWG formats are managed in a centralized repository that delivers the ability to automatically identify changes and discrepancies between multiple 2D design drawing sets and 3D models. Issues tracking-Basic clash detection, tolerance settings and issues resolution/coordination enable teams to identify constructability issues in the planning stage, before they occur in the field. Persistent markup capability ensures that issues are effectively communicated and tracked throughout the design-build-operate (DBO) lifecycle. Integrated reporting capabilities-Flexible and customizable reporting capabilities enable export to PDF, XLS and HTML formats to improve communication and collaboration with non-BIM users in the field. 2D/3D hybrid mode-The ability to map 2D documents to coordinated 3D models in a hybrid environment allows easy comparison of the documents as a final accuracy check before prefabrication and installation drawings are generated.
