Trimble Introduces Version 8 of Its Trimble Quantm System for Road and Rail Alignment Planning

Trimble introduced a new version of its Trimble Quantm system for road and rail alignment planning. In version 8, Quantm continues to provide the most comprehensive planning and costing solution available, with enhancements that offer road and rail designers a more seamless transition from planning to design with greater data integrity. Rich Data Exchange with Bentley's OpenRoads for Construction Modeling Easy data transfer between the Quantm Alignment Planning System and Bentley's OpenRoads software extends the design-to-construction workflow for alignments to include corridor planning in Quantm. In addition, change management and tracking functionality preserve the design intent, and accelerate project delivery with a more seamless transfer of information from planning through design and construction. Quantm version 8 produces accurate geometric alignments that can be used in the design and construction phases of a project. The geometric parameters and enhanced templates produce highly detailed alignments that result in a more realistic model of the route. Geometric alignments also deliver enhanced data fidelity and can result in more accurate costing at the beginning phases of a project for better communication between the designers and builders of new road and rail projects. In addition, improved geometric optimization functionality allows planners to produce data rich, realistic graphics for client and public consultations. Satellite image overlays and Trimble SketchUp data warehouse models can be included to convey a real-world 3D representation of the design.

Trimble Introduces New Portfolio of Timing Products for the 4G LTE Small Cell Market

Trimble introduced a new portfolio of time and frequency products to address the synchronization needs of the fast growing 4G LTE small cell market. Regardless of whether a network is using 3G, 4G LTE, LTE-Advanced wireless technologies or a combination, synchronization and syntonization are essential for mobile networks. The new LTE-Advanced features—such as Enhanced Inter-Cell Interference Coordination (eICIC), Coordinated Multipoint Transmission (CoMP), Carrier Aggregation (CA) and Multi-Media Broadcast over a Single Frequency Network (MBSFN)—require an even higher degree of precision. Carriers are making significant investments in small cells, LTE-A and Heterogeneous networks to increase capacity and coverage. Network synchronization is a must to achieve both objectives. Trimble offers new timing products that are ideal for a wide range of small cell synchronization applications. The solutions provide increased holdover capabilities and more robust signals with multi-constellation GNSS technology to sync wireless networks more efficiently. The Mini-T™ GG Disciplined Clock is a multi-GNSS (GPS and GLONASS) embedded module, optimized to generate precise 10MHz output and pulse per second. It utilizes the latest in GNSS technology, combined with a precision ovenized oscillator for near atomic clock precision timing. The Mini-T GG provides 24-hour holdover capability and is suitable for pico and microcells. The Trimble 360™ multi-GNSS receiver is designed to cover the full spectrum of small cells—residential femtocell to rural microcell. The Trimble 360 timing products support GPS, GLONASS and BeiDou systems, and are Galileo-ready. In addition to full constellations, the 360 products support Satellite Based Augmentation Systems (SBAS) and the Asian Pacific Quasi-Zenith Satellite System (QZSS). The compact, surface mount ICM SMT 360 timing module, measuring only 19 x 19 mm generates a precise 10MHz reference clock for synchronization of residential and enterprise femtocell networks. It provides holdover capability, which allows the module to extend the availability of reference timing outputs. The Resolution SMT 360 is available in the same 19 x 19 mm form factor, and provides a pulse per second that provides nanosecond accuracy to any application requiring precision time reference such as wireless networks, utilities and digital broadcasting. The Trimble Mini-T GG disciplined clock, ICM-SMT 360 module and Resolution SMT 360 timing module and starter kit are available now. The Trimble 360 multi-GNSS receiver is expected to be available in January 2015.

Trimble Enhances Trimble Business Center Office Software to Process and Model Imagery into Actionable Spatial Data

Trimble announced a new version of its office software for geospatial professionals--Trimble Business Center version 3.40. Trimble Business Center is a powerful geospatial office software suite designed to manage, analyze and process all field survey data, including optical, GNSS and imaging data. New functionality in version 3.40 expands the capabilities of geospatial professionals working with imaging and optical data in the office. Enhancements include: operating the Trimble V10 Imaging Rover without a positioning sensor; improved image processing reliability in difficult environments; an option to export visual data into SketchUp Pro; and creating dimensionally accurate measurements from a plane--allowing geospatial professionals to easily generate compelling deliverables for their clients. Geospatial and non-geospatial professionals can now use the Trimble V10 Imaging Rover without additional GNSS or optical positioning sensors. With Trimble Business Center 3.40, users can quickly capture panoramas for any field site, even in challenging environments, and easily create measurements. With the investment in additional GNSS or optical sensors now optional, the system offers a path to many additional applications such as interior mapping, bridge inspection, and crime and crash scene investigation for both geospatial and non-geospatial professionals. In addition, Trimble Business Center 3.40 now provides improved image processing that can allow customers to obtain spatial data that is highly accurate and consistent for end deliverables. Users working with their visual data in Trimble Business Center 3.40 can now export collected images into SketchUp Pro and create robust 3D models of buildings, bridges and a variety of other objects for faster deliverable generation. Users will be able to draft directly on the images captured with Trimble VISION(TM) instruments, including the powerful Trimble V10 Imaging Rover and Trimble VISION total stations. Significant timesaving in extracting objects along vertical walls such as facade reconstruction is now easily achieved within Trimble Business Center 3.40. Users can measure and draw dimensionally accurate line work directly on the panoramas, eliminating the need to extract photo points for line work creation. Providing the option to perform direct modeling from images, users can manage data and create deliverables more quickly compared to traditional methods. Trimble Business Center version 3.40 is expected to be available in November 2014 through Trimble's Geospatial Distribution Channel. The Trimble V10 Imaging Rover is available now.
