Türkiye Petrol Rafinerileri A.S., together with its subsidiaries, is primarily engaged in the refining of crude oil and petroleum products in turkey. The company also imports and exports petroleum products; and operates 4 oil refineries with a total of 28.1 million tons annual crude oil processing capacity. Its products include liquid petroleum gas, automotive fuels, solvents, white spirit, gasoline, kerosene, cutting and heating oil, diesel and marine residual fuel, high sulphur fuel oil, clarified oil, bituminous binder, fuel oil, bitumen, and sulphur, as well as spindle, light and heavy neutral, and bright stock base oil products. The company’s products also comprise light and heavy neutral, and bright stock slack wax, as well as spindle wax products. In addition, it purchases, sells, imports, exports, stores, markets, and distributes various petroleum products, liquid petroleum gas, and natural gas; and provides crude oil and petroleum products transportation services. Further, the company evaluates and/or sells waste, by products, and sub standard products; establishes and operates facilities for the destruction of the waste products, as well as facilities and plants related with various kinds of energy and energy related industries; trades in equipment, materials, and chemical substances; and provides air carriage and transportation services. The company was founded in 1983 and is headquartered in Kocaeli, Turkey. Türkiye Petrol Rafinerileri A.S. is a subsidiary of Enerji Yatirimlari A.S.

Tupras Launches $25 Million Wastewater Treatment Project

Tupras announced that it has launched a $25 million (€18 million) project to establish a wastewater treatment unit at its refinery in Izmit in the northwestern Turkish province of Kocaeli. The project, carried out in collaboration with the Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality, is aimed at reducing the consumption of fresh water by the refinery with the use of recycled wastewater. The unit will use the pre-treatment and reverse osmosis membrane technology and will have the capacity to recycle 12 million tonnes of wastewater in the Izmit Gulf region per year. The recycled water will be used in the production processes and the fire-protection water system at the refinery. The first section of the wastewater treatment unit, with capacity to process 450 cu m per hour, will become operational in four months. The second section, with capacity to process 1,000 cu m per hour, will start operating after 12 months.

An omnibus bill that seeks to eliminate the possibility of the cancelation of several controversial privatization tenders entered Parliament on June 13, 2014, according to a report in the Hürriyet daily on June 15, 2014. The privatization of ETI Aluminyum A.S., the SEKA paper factory, the Kusadasi and Çesme ports, in addition to the 14.76% sale of Turkiye Petrol Rafinerileri A.S. (IBSE:TUPRS), were the subjects of controversy as injunctions were issued against the projects by the Council of State in 2007 and 2008.

Turkiye Petrol Rafinerileri AS reported un-audited consolidated earnings results for the first quarter ended March 31, 2014. For the quarter, the company reported revenue of TRY 9,275,731,000 compared to TRY 8,228,876,000 a year ago. Operating profit of TRY 271,936,000 compared to TRY 53,216,000 a year ago. Profit before taxation of TRY 232,087,000 compared to TRY 45,508,000 a year ago. Profit was TRY 513,346,000 or TRY 2.04 per share compared to TRY 130,267,000 or TRY 0.51 per share a year ago. EBITDA was TRY 332,557,000 compared to TRY 139,974,000 a year ago. Cash flows used in operating activities was TRY 773,089,000 compared to TRY 536,318,000 a year ago. Cash outflows from the purchase of property, plant and equipment and intangible assets were TRY 635,645,000 compared to TRY 430,723,000 a year ago.
