Unisys Corporation Introduces Second Generation of Enterprise Computing Platform

Unisys Corporation has introduced the second generation of its Forward! by Unisys enterprise computing platform. New features include support for the new Intel Xeon Processor E7 v2 Family and capabilities that expand the power and flexibility of the Forward! platform for a range of mission-critical applications. Unisys debuted four new models of the Forward! platform, with two using the faster computing capabilities and greater memory capacity of the Intel Xeon E7 (Ivy Bridge) processors. The new models support a larger number of processor cores and partitions than the first-generation Forward! platform. The new models also provide clients a broader range of options to build powerful, secure environments to address complex cloud, ERP, big data and analytics applications. Designed for Linux and Windows workloads, the new Forward! models combine the Intel processors with Unisys' advanced secure partitioning (s-Par) software and high speed interconnect technology in an advanced fabric architecture linking all computing resources and components. The new high-end Forward! models 4150 and 4120 use the Intel Xeon Processor E7 4800 v2, which provides up to 48 and 60 processor cores, respectively, per node-nearly a four-fold increase over the first-generation Forward! platform. In addition, those new models accommodate up to 12 secure partitions per node, with 512 gigabytes of memory per partition, escalating the power and scalability required for the most challenging mission-critical applications. The mid-range Forward! models 2080 and 2100 use the Intel Xeon Processor E5 2600 v2. These models support up to 16 and 20 processor cores and up to 12 partitions per node, with 384 gigabytes of memory per partition. All nodes in the Forward! fabric are connected via high-speed links to reduce system latency and provide better real-time analytics and transaction performance than competing platforms. Users can create multi-node versions of Forward! spanning different geographic locations, creating a system that is virtually limitless in scalability and power.

The Unisys s-Par software on the Forward! platform goes beyond traditional virtualization technology by creating a secure 'container' of dedicated resources for each mission-critical application workload -- eliminating the resource contention that often accompanies virtualization and enabling faster, more predictable performance. In a recent third-party test, the Forward! platform decisively outperformed a virtualized environment using an industry-standard hypervisor, delivering up to 38% better throughput and up to 122% faster multiple-workload performance. The new high-end Forward! models 4150 and 4120 use the Intel(R) Xeon(R) Processor E7 4800 v2, which provides up to 48 and 60 processor cores, respectively, per node -- nearly a four-fold increase over the first-generation Forward! platform. Unisys Corporation Announces 12 Models of its Clearpath Systems

Unisys Corporation announced 12 models of its ClearPath systems using an advanced fabric architecture based on industry-standard Intel Xeon family processors. The new systems provide ClearPath clients with greater power and flexibility for their mission-critical applications in a modern and highly secure environment. Continuing the ongoing evolution of the ClearPath family to an open architecture based on Intel x86 processors, the new models outperform predecessor ClearPath models based on CMOS processors. The software-based fabric architecture in the new models connects computing resources and components through high-speed interconnects, enabling organizations to create systems of exceptional scalability and power. The architecture, using Unisys secure partitioning technology, provides a common platform for clients to securely run their ClearPath applications alongside Linux and Windows applications. The following are the new additions to the Unisys ClearPath line: Dorado systems. Based on the ClearPath OS 2200 operating environment, the new high-end 6380/6390, mid-range 4380/4390 and entry-level 4350/4370 models deliver up to four times the input/output performance of comparable CMOS-based predecessors while using 90% fewer I/O processors. Libra systems. Based on the ClearPath MCP operating environment, the high-end 8380/8390 and 6380/6390 and the mid-range 4380/4390 models top the computing performance of CMOS-based predecessors by up to 55%. The new ClearPath systems take advantage of the computing power and I/O performance of Intel Xeon Processor E5 2600 v2 processing technology, including the Intel Data Direct I/O Technology and Advanced Programmable Interrupt Controller virtualization features. The Unisys s-Par software technology manages workloads on the ClearPath systems, creating a secure container of dedicated resources for each application workload, eliminating resource contention and enabling faster, more predictable performance. Each new ClearPath system features an OS 2200 or MCP environment, including computing and I/O controls, as well as specialty partitions that make it easier to modernize the application environment. An example is the ClearPath ePortal, which enables development of multi-tier, web and mobile applications. Each system also includes a Forward! by Unisys platform, integrated through the fabric architecture, for Linux and Windows workloads. Basic configurations of the new ClearPath systems are priced as Dorado 6300 series from $2,000,000; 4380/90 from $665,000; and 4350/70 from $325,000; Libra 8300 series from $5,600,000; 6300 series from $1,200,000; and 4300 series from $900,000. The new ClearPath models are scheduled for availability June 30, 2014.
