The company is involved in the cultivation, processing, and trading of oil palm and rubber plantations. Its products include crude palm oil and its by-product, palm kernel oil; a range of rubber products from latex to block skim rubber; and palm oil-based oleochemicals and refinery products, including fatty acids, refined glycerin, fatty alcohols, olein, stearin, and palm fatty acid distillate. As of December 31, 2011, the company had a total planted area of approximately 92,200 hectares of palm oil plantations, as well as managed approximately 11,438 hectares of plasma plantations located in the provinces of North Sumatra, West Sumatra, Riau, Jambi, South Sumatra, Central Kalimantan, and South Kalimantan; and approximately 18,921 hectares of rubber plantations located in North Sumatra, South Sumatra, Bengkulu, and Lampung. It also engages in the production of bio diesel; operation of a paper mill; provision of financial services; industrial estate management activities; and production, processing, distribution, and sale of seeds. The company was formerly known as United Sumatera Plantations and changed its name to PT Bakrie Sumatera Plantations Tbk. in 1991. PT Bakrie Sumatera Plantations Tbk was founded in 1911 and is headquartered in Kisaran, Indonesia.
