It operates in three segments: U.S. Domestic Package, International Package, and Supply Chain & Freight. The U.S. Domestic Package segment offers time-definite delivery of letters, documents, small packages, and palletized freight through air and ground services in the United States. The International Package segment provides delivery services to approximately 220 countries and territories, including shipments outside the United States, as well as shipments with origin or destination outside the United States. The Supply Chain & Freight segment offers forwarding and logistics services, such as supply chain design and management, freight distribution, customs brokerage, mail, and consulting services in approximately 195 countries and territories; and less-than-truckload and truckload services to customers in North America. The company also offers shipping, visibility, and billing technologies; export and import financing services; payment solutions; and risk mitigation offerings. It operates a fleet of approximately 103,000 package cars, vans, tractors, and motorcycles; and owns 33,000 containers used to transport cargo in its aircraft. United Parcel Service, Inc. was founded in 1907 and is headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia.

UPS Plans to Expand in Brazil

UPS announced it's expansion plan in Brazil to increase territorial coverage, improve time in transit and quality in the solutions it offers its customers. The expansion in the state of São Paulo includes the opening of nine new operating facilities, which will increase the company's country-wide network by 78% to reach more than 200 cities. The nine operating locations will be strategically situated in the cities of São Carlos, Ribeirão Preto, Franca, Bauru, São José dos Campos, São José do Rio Preto, Botucatu, Araçatuba and Presidente Prudente, and are set to be completed by May 2015. The company will also increase the size of it's ground fleet to 115 vehicles, adding routes to Santos, São José dos Campos, Sorocaba, Marilia and Campinas, allowing UPS to extend its services by two additional hours to place and pick up orders. UPS's expansion in the state of São Paulo will increase the size of its operations to almost 216,000 sq. feet, which will include a total of 21 operating facilities, serving more than 110 municipalities and reaching more than 200 cities nationwide. The in-country growth will employ more than 3,000 employees, creating an estimated 100 new jobs and add more than 800 third-party staff positions.

UPS Launches Zhengzhou-Germany FCL Rail Freight Business

UPS announced launch of FCL rail freight business between China and Europe recently. One route is from Zhengzhou to Hamburg, Germany and the other is from Chengdu to Lodz, Poland. After combining the business and UPS' current freight and road transportation service networks, the speed will be 50% higher than sea freight and the cost will be 70% lower than air freight.

UPS Mulls Acquisitions

United Parcel Service, Inc. (NYSE:UPS) plans to invest $1 billion in its European operations in the next three to five years, mostly in expansion of its logistics centres, Kurt Kuehn, Chief Financial Officer, told a German newspaper. A big chunk of the investment will go to Germany, one of the express delivery firm's fastest-growing markets, daily Sueddeutsche Zeitung quoted Kuehn as saying in an interview published on July 2, 2014.
