UPS Establishes Two New Facilities in Poland Representing a Combined $25 Million Investment

UPS announced intentions to establish two new facilities in Poland representing a combined $25 million investment. The first is a new parcel sorting hub and center in the town of Strykow. The investment in this facility is the larger of its kind for the company in Poland and construction is scheduled to begin this September. The second facility will house a UPS Global Business Services (GBS) center in the city of Lodz - the second of its kind in the country. Both are scheduled to be operational in the first half of 2015 and will create more than 300 new UPS jobs in Poland. The new facility in Strykow will operate simultaneously as a package sorting center and a distribution hub for parcels of all sizes to meet the growing needs of the market. It will have a total operating area of nearly 13,000 square meters, the equivalent of two football fields and will be equipped with sorting technology that can process up to 15,000 packages per hour.

UPS Announces Expansion of its Delivery Center in Menifee, California

UPS announced a $17.5 million expansion of its delivery center in Menifee, Calif., to handle increased shipping volume from customers throughout the region. The expansion, which more than doubles the existing space, will open in late September. In addition to expedited package processing capability supported by advanced technology and conveyor systems, the facility will have expanded vehicle parking and an enlarged UPS Customer Center. The expanded facility will increase processing capacity from 4,000 pieces to 10,000 pieces per day. The interior space also can be reconfigured to support increased demand around the peak holiday shopping season. Advanced technology equipment that can scan, measure and weigh packages, and affix labels will accelerate processing and increase sorting efficiency. The expanded space will cover 49,407 square feet and include 10 tractor-trailer doors and room for 108 delivery vehicles. Nearly 35 delivery routes were transferred from the nearby Riverside and San Bernardino facilities to serve customers more efficiently and position the region for continued growth.

UPS Announces Two New Dallas-Fort Worth Buildings

UPS announced the addition of two new package distribution facilities in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Both buildings are being leased and modified to serve as distribution facilities. These new additions to the company’s integrated network address growth in package volume. One building, nicknamed "Independence," is located in the Alliance development of Fort Worth. It will create more than 300 package handler jobs and over 50 tractor trailer driver positions. The 495,000 square-foot building will serve the company customers in the North Tarrant and South Denton counties. The Independence facility will feature package sorting technology. Computerized planning technology will enable the company engineers to plan package sorts in multiple configurations. This "smart" building technology provides the company flexibility to balance volume surges or other demand changes. The second building, located in McKinney, Texas, will bring approximately 120 new full-time jobs to the area. By 2017, the company will also bring over 200 part-time jobs to McKinney. The 215,000 square-foot facility will serve the company customers in Collin County. The modifications are expected to be completed in November 2014 and the buildings will be operational in time for the holiday season. With the addition of these sites, UPS now has eight buildings serving the Dallas-Fort Worth area with more than 7,500 employees.
