UQM Technologies Inc. announced that it is introducing a new system in its growing line of production-ready, automotive-validated electric propulsion systems for vehicles. The new UQM PowerPhase HD(R) 950T provides 950 Nm of torque and is designed for heavier commercial trucks and buses that require higher torque. This is an additional offering to the PowerPhase HD 220 that announced last year, giving customers choices of various levels of torque and horsepower to meet their requirements. The UQM PowerPhase HD 950T provides 950 Nm of peak torque, 144 kW of peak power and 100 kW of continuous power. This high torque level delivers better launch performance, grade climbing and acceleration for heavier vehicles. The power and speed range also make it possible to use this electric motor in conjunction with simplified transmissions. In addition to full-electric vehicle applications, the PowerPhase HD(R) 950T is ideal for use in parallel hybrid applications. The higher torque and lower speed range optimizes the system for operation at engine speeds, a requirement in these types of powertrain systems. UQM PowerPhase(R) electric propulsion systems power Proterra's all-electric composite transit buses, Electric Vehicles International's all-electric medium-duty trucks and walk-in vans and Boulder Electric Vehicle's commercial vehicles.

UQM Technologies Inc. announced that it has appointed David I. Rosenthal as Treasurer and Chief Financial Officer. Mr. Rosenthal has extensive finance and accounting experience in senior leadership roles across a variety of industries during his 30+ year career. In his new role, Mr. Rosenthal will lead Accounting, Finance, Investor Relations and Human Resources. Mr. Rosenthal was a director and served as Interim President and Chief Executive Officer of Cyanotech Corporation, a publicly-traded manufacturer of nutritional supplement products. Prior to that Mr. Rosenthal served as Chief Financial Officer for Sanz Inc.

UQM Technologies Inc. and the Denver Regional Transportation District announced that UQM will begin a refurbishment program on the generators and motor controllers used in the agency's fleet of hybrid buses. The original units being refurbished far exceeded their expected life and this program will allow additional running time for the fleet of buses, which operate seven days a week in downtown Denver. As part of the refresh, each UQM component in the hybrid bus systems will be thoroughly inspected and worn parts replaced, returning the units to near-new condition. Each refurbished unit will then be run through a full set of final testing to ensure that they are ready for many more miles of trouble-free operation. All 30 shuttle buses are expected to be refreshed over the next two years.
