It serves its customers directly through retail stores, Websites, mobile applications, catalogs, and customer contact centers. The company operates retail stores under the Urban Outfitters, Anthropologie, Free People, Terrain, and Bhldn brands. The Urban Outfitters stores offer women’s and men’s fashion apparel, footwear, beauty, accessories, and sporting apparel and gear, as well as an eclectic mix of apartment wares and gifts to young adults aged 18 to 28; and the Anthropologie stores’ product assortment includes women’s casual apparel and accessories, shoes, home furnishings, and various gifts and decorative items to women aged 28 to 45. Its Free People stores primarily offer a merchandise mix of casual women’s apparel, intimates, shoes, accessories, and gifts to young women aged 25 to 30; Terrain stores provide lifestyle home and garden products combined with antiques, live plants, flowers, wellness products, and accessories, as well as landscape and design services; and Bhldn stores sell a collection of wedding gowns, bridesmaid frocks, party dresses, assorted jewelry, headpieces, footwear, lingerie, and decorations. The Terrain stores also offer a full-service restaurant and coffee bar services. The company operates 232 Urban Outfitters stores, 190 Anthropologie stores, 92 Free People stores, 2 Terrain garden centers, and 2 Bhldn stores in North America and Europe. Urban Outfitters, Inc. also operates a wholesale business under the Free People brand that designs, develops, and markets young women’s casual apparel to other retailers and department stores in the United States. The company was founded in 1970 and is based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Urban Outfitters Announces Unaudited Consolidated Earnings Results for the Third Quarter and Nine Months Ended October 31, 2014; Provides Earnings Guidance for the Fourth Quarter and Full Year of Fiscal 2015

Urban Outfitters announced unaudited consolidated earnings results for the third quarter and nine months ended October 31, 2014. For the quarter, the company reported net sales of $814,470,000 against $774,049,000 a year ago. The increase in sales was driven by a $34 million increase in non comparable store sales, opening 14 net new stores and a 26% jump in Wholesale segment sales. Income from operations was $76,445,000 against $105,459,000 a year ago. Income before income taxes was $75,772,000 against $105,273,000 a year ago. Net income was $47,143,000 or $0.35 per diluted share against $70,257,000 or $0.47 per diluted share a year ago. Comparable Retail segment net sales, which include its comparable direct-to-consumer channel, decreased 1%. Comparable Retail segment net sales increased 15% at Free People and 2% at the Anthropologie Group and decreased 7% at Urban Outfitters. Wholesale segment net sales rose 26%. For the nine months, the company reported net sales of $2,312,033,000 against $2,180,750,000 a year ago. Income from operations was $241,403,000 against $297,742,000 a year ago. Income before income taxes was $239,843,000 against $297,634,000 a year ago. Net income was $152,130,000 or $1.09 per diluted share against $193,678,000 or $1.30 per diluted share a year ago. For the fourth quarter of 2014, the company expects gross profit margin will continue to deleverage on a year-over-year basis. This gross profit margin deleverage could be similar to the first half of fiscal year 2015. The company is planning for SG&A to grow at a low double-digit rate for the final quarter of the year 2014. This increase would be driven by increases related to direct and selling support expenses to support new store growth and continued investments in technology and marketing expenditures utilized to further customer acquisition and retention efforts. For the fiscal year 2015, Capital expenditures are planned at approximately $215 million to $235 million, driven primarily by a new fulfillment center in Gap, Pennsylvania and the expansion of home office and new stores. Annual effective tax rate is planned to be approximately 36.5%.
