Its Wealth Management segment provides brokerage and investment advisory services covering various types of investments comprising equities, options, futures, foreign currencies, precious metals, fixed income securities, mutual funds, structured products, alternative investments, unit investment trusts, managed futures, separately managed accounts, and mutual fund asset allocation programs. This segment also offers education savings programs, financial and wealth planning services, annuity and other insurance products, cash management services, trust and fiduciary services, retirement solutions, and credit and other lending products, as well as fixed income principal trading services. The company’s Investment Management segment provides alternative investment products, such as hedge funds, private equity and real estate funds, and portable alpha strategies to institutional and intermediary channels, and high net worth clients, as well as is involved in real estate investing and merchant banking businesses. Morgan Stanley was founded in 1935 and is headquartered in New York, New York.

Morgan Stanley Declares Quarterly Dividend, Payable on May 15, 2014; Reports Unaudited Consolidated Earnings Results for the First Quarter Ended March 31, 2014

Morgan Stanley increased its quarterly dividend to $0.10 per share from $0.05 per share, payable on May 15, 2014 to common shareholders of record on April 30, 2014. The company reported unaudited consolidated earnings results for the first quarter ended March 31, 2014. For the quarter, the company’s net revenues were $8,929 million against $8,150 million last year. Income from continuing operations before taxes was $2,307 million against $1,583 million last year. Income from continuing operations was $1,545 million or $0.72 per diluted share against $1,250 million or $0.49 per diluted share last year. Earnings applicable to the company’s common shareholders were $1,449 million or $0.74 per diluted share against $936 million or $0.48 per diluted share last year. Return on average common equity from continuing operations was 8.9% against 6.3% a year ago. Return on average common equity was 9.2% against 6.2% a year ago. Book value per common share as at March 31, 2014 was $32.38 against $31.21 as at March 31, 2013. Tangible book value per common share March 31, 2014 was $27.41 against $27.38 at March 31, 2013. Earnings (loss) per diluted share from continuing operations - Non-GAAP were $0.68 against $0.60 last year. Non-GAAP income applicable to the company was $1,391 million against $1,182 million last year.

Morgan Stanley Announces Executive Changes

Morgan Stanley announced that Barry Goldstein was named COO of the unit. Shelley O'Connor, who was recently named head of field management, leads a workforce of more than 16,000 financial advisers. The memo stated that Bill McMahon and Rick Skae will remain as division heads, running the western and eastern divisions, respectively. In addition, Douglas Kentfield, who had run the western division since July 2012, will leave to pursue other opportunities. Barry Goldstein will become COO of the wealth division. Mandell Crawley, head of business development, and Lisa Golia, chief administrative officer, will have expanded roles. The management changes will take effect at the end of May 2014.

Morgan Stanley Names Jason Miyashita as New Vice President of Wealth Management in its Guam Office

Morgan Stanley has named Jason Miyashita as new vice president of wealth management in its Guam office. Miyashita currently serves several roles including senior investment management consultant, international client advisor and financial advisor at Morgan Stanley. Miyashita has joined Morgan Stanley Wealth Management in 2005.
