KONE Selects Vodafone's M2M Remote Monitoring Technology

Vodafone has announced that KONE has selected its machine to machine or M2M, remote monitoring technology in order to create a new diagnostics service to schedule maintenance tasks. Regulations stipulate that a lift cannot be used unless it has a working phone in case of an emergency; however, KONE was experiencing delays in installation with fixed line operators, especially in new builds, and decided instead to opt for mobile communications technologies from Vodafone. A Vodafone M2M SIM card is embedded into each KONE lift, enabling operational data to be sent and received wirelessly over the Vodafone network, including daily update logs with data such as the number of journeys and reports from microprocessors monitoring key components. That data is then compared with historical logs, enabling KONE to monitor trends and anticipate potential issues before they arise, in turn helping the company plan maintenance schedules more effectively and improve service quality.

Vodafone Reportedly To Acquire Stake In HOL And CYTA

Vodafone Group Public Limited Company (LSE:VOD) is seeking to increase its stake in hellas online S.A. (ATSE:HOL) to 76%, market reports said. This view is finally set to play out in 2014, reports suggested. Vodafone has agreed to acquire Intracom Holdings SA (ATSE:INTRK)'s 57.5% stake in HOL and that the deal will be formally announced very soon. Vodafone already owns 18.5% of the operator, a stake it has held for several years. Minority investors include World Equities Investments Holdings S.A. with 15.5% stake and it is believed that Vodafone is working to acquire those parties' shares in HOL. Vodafone is also said to be considering acquiring Cyta Hellas Telecommunications S.A. from its parent Cyprus Telecommunications Authority. The latter is expected to be privatised in the near future and non-core assets divested to help the Cypriot government deal with its international debt crisis

SoftBank Reportedly Mulls Acquisition Of Vodafone

SoftBank Corp. (TSE:9984) is planning to acquire Vodafone Group Public Limited Company (LSE:VOD), reported Forbes citing a telecom executive and banker and two other sources. The executive heard rumors that Softbank is evaluating a deal with Vodafone. The executive said that Vodafone presents an opportunity for international expansion. The sources said that even with proceeds from an initial public offering of Alibaba, Softbank lacks the financial wherewithal to acquire Vodafone. The banker said that Vodafone is likely uninterested in taking on stock from Softbank or associated concerns and would want cash if agreeing to a takeout.A spokesperson for Softbank declined comment to Forbes and Vodafone did not respond to inquiries.
