Volvo Announces Agreement with Scandinavian Logistics Partners AB to Sell Surplus Capacity in Rail Transport from Belgium to Sweden

The Volvo Group has reached an agreement with Scandinavian Logistics Partners AB (Scanlog) to sell surplus capacity in rail transport from Belgium to Sweden. The agreement will produce benefits in terms of costs and environmental impact. The Volvo Group's freight train, the so-called "Train 8" leaves from Umeå via Älmhult in Sweden fully loaded with truck components to the Group's truck plant in Ghent, Belgium with ten departures a week. But only 10% of the load capacity is used during the return trip to Sweden. The Volvo Group is always trying to optimize transport based on reliability, cost and environmental impact. The means of transport is chosen that best meets the criteria. For this reason, the Volvo Group has been seeking opportunities to use surplus capacity that arises from Train 8's return journey from Belgium to Sweden. Scanlog's requirement matches prevailing conditions and an agreement has now been signed with them. From July 1, 2014, The Volvo Group will sell the surplus capacity to Scanlog, which in turn sells cargo space to its customers.

Volvo Trucks Introduces New and Unique Gearbox for Heavy Vehicles

Volvo Trucks, a division of the Volvo Group AB announced the launch of the I-Shift Dual Clutch, reportedly the first transmission on the market with a dual clutch system for heavy vehicles. With this new gearbox, as a result of power-shift gear changes without any interruption in power delivery, torque is maintained and the truck does not lose any speed during gear changes. For the driver, the result is more comfortable and efficient progress on the road. Also, the smooth gear changes means that the in-cab environment feels quieter. I-Shift Dual Clutch is a transmission consisting of two input shafts and a dual clutch, allowing two gears to be selected at the same time. It is the clutch that determines which of the gears is currently active. I-Shift Dual Clutch is based on I-Shift, but the front half of the gearbox has been redesigned with entirely new components. I-Shift Dual Clutch will be available from autumn 2014 on the Volvo FH with Euro 6 D13 engines and with 460, 500 and 540 horsepower.
