silicon graphics internation (VX6) Key Developments

SGI Introduces SGI(R) UV(TM) for SAP HANA(R)

SGI introduced SGI(R) UV(TM) for SAP HANA(R). It is a purpose-built, in-memory computing appliance for growing environments running the SAP HANA platform. SGI UV for SAP HANA utilizes a unique scale-up, single-node architecture designed to deliver performance at unprecedented platform capacities. The simplicity of a single-node will allow enterprises to run applications free from the overhead of clustered appliances and reduce installation time -- there are no cluster nodes, cluster network, or SAN to configure and administer. And there will not be a need for database partitioning or re-balancing I/O when increasing the size of the SGI appliance. Operational costs are reduced, high availability is streamlined, and capacity can be increased seamlessly with near-linear performance. SGI UV for SAP HANA features the SGI UV 300H, a new offering in the SGI(R) UV(TM) server line built for SAP HANA that couples seventh generation SGI technology and over 100 patents for in-memory computing with Intel(R) Xeon(R) E7 8890 v2 15-core processors. The appliance is certified by SAP at 4- or 8- sockets with up to 6TB of shared memory using 32GB DIMMS (capacity doubles using 64GB DIMMS) using ultrafast SGI NUMAlink(R) 7 interconnects. SGI UV 300H architecture is designed to scale to 32 sockets and 24TB of shared memory as a single-node system. NetApp(R) E2700 RAID arrays provide backup of data and log files in the event of power loss.

Silicon Graphics International Corp. Unveils Data Management Capabilities for Intel Enterprise's Lustre Software

Silicon Graphics International Corp. announced the availability of tiered data management capabilities that expand the functional capabilities of Intel Enterprise Edition for Lustre software and enable improved storage efficiency for organizations' parallel computing needs. With high-performance computing (HPC) and Big Data analytics growing at an unprecedented rate, Intel and SGI are working together to leverage targeted software and hardware solutions to drive the industry forward. Building on Intel's previous collaborations with the French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission (CEA) around the integration of the Robinhood Policy Engine, the Intel Enterprise Edition for Lustre integration with SGI DMF for Lustre now delivers a complete hierarchical storage management (HSM) solution, allowing multi-tiered storage to be fully integrated with Lustre. When paired with secondary storage such as disk or tape backup, HSM enables Lustre to provide near-limitless capacity. SGI DMF directly leverages the HSM capability by providing direct integration with Lustre, and by allowing customers to take advantage of long-term storage while simplifying management activities.

SGI Announces Immediate Availability of Highly Scalable Tiered Data Management Capabilities

SGI announced the immediate availability of highly scalable tiered data management capabilities that expand the functional capabilities of Intel Enterprise Edition for Lustre software and enable increased storage efficiency for organizations' parallel computing needs. With high-performance computing (HPC) and Big Data analytics growing at an unprecedented rate, Intel and SGI are working together to leverage targeted software and hardware solutions to drive the industry forward. Building on Intel's previous collaborations with the French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission (CEA) around the integration of the Robinhood Policy Engine, the Intel(R) Enterprise Edition for Lustre integration with SGI DMF for Lustre now delivers a complete hierarchical storage management (HSM) solution, allowing multi-tiered storage to be fully integrated with Lustre. SGI DMF for Lustre is an integrated solution that adds enormous storage scalability and increased cost management to the Lustre file system environment with no impact to native Lustre file system performance. The platform is based on the most recent releases of Lustre, including the Intel Enterprise Edition for Lustre software, that feature core file system enhancements for the integration of advanced data management capabilities such as those delivered by SGI DMF for Lustre. Further, the software is supported by SGI's global support team in conjunction with Intel's Lustre engineering team to assist organizations to maximize the performance and scalability offered through the partnership.
