Silicon Graphics International Corp. develops, markets, and sells various servers, enterprise-class storage hardware, differentiating software, and solutions. Its scale-out computing solutions include SGI Rackable server clusters; SGI ICE X, a distributed memory supercomputer; and scale-up computing solutions comprise SGI UV 2, a coherent in-memory system that runs various compute-intensive workloads simultaneously, as well as SGI UV, an appliance for the SAP HANA platform, which enable real-time transactional and analytical processing. The company also offers data analytics solutions, such as SGI solutions for Hadoop; SGI InfiniteData Cluster, a cluster computing platform combining server and storage density; SGI Graph, Fraud Analysis, Social Analytics, and Genomics solutions; and SGI InfiniteStorage Gateway, an active archive appliance. In addition, it provides SGI clustered and high performance storage solutions comprising a suite of hardware and software products that addresses data storage and management requirements. Further, the company offers SGI Management Center to manage SGI HPC cluster solutions; SGI Foundation Software, a software suite of support tools and utilities; SGI Performance Suite that enhances performance and provides additional capabilities for developers of technical computing and big data applications; and SGI networking solutions. Additionally, it offers support, remote, installation, customer education, and professional services. Silicon Graphics International Corp. provides its products to scientific, business, and government communities through direct sales force and distributors, system integrators, value-added resellers, original equipment manufacturers, and channel partners. The company was formerly known as Rackable Systems, Inc. and changed its name to Silicon Graphics International Corp. in May 2009. Czech Republic National Supercomputer Center Selects SGI Supercomputer to Drive Advanced Scientific Research

SGI announced that the IT4Innovations National Supercomputing Center in the Czech Republic selected an SGI supercomputer to advance research in a variety of fields including nanotechnology, computational chemistry, hydrology, engineering, material science and drug development. The SGI supercomputer will provide the center with theoretical performance at 2 petaflops, exceeding the performance of the current Anselm supercomputer by nearly 20 times.

Seagate Technology plc Signs Reselling Partnership Agreement with SGI

Seagate Technology plc has signed a reselling partnership agreement with SGI. SGI will be offering customers the ClusterStor(TM) 1500, 6000, and 9000 appliances, along with the ClusterStor Secure Data Appliance (SDA). Engineered for high-performance computing (HPC) workflows, Seagate's ClusterStor solutions combine ultra-dense data storage enclosures, high-availability metadata servers, scale-out servers and the Lustre(R) parallel file system in a tightly-coupled, easy-to-manage appliance. The award-winning Seagate ClusterStor solution removes the complexities associated with deploying and maintaining traditional high-performance systems yielding faster time to results, ease of use and management, and world-class performance to meet mission-critical needs. The market and subsequent application use for a combined Seagate and SGI architecture is diverse. Users include bioinformatics, pharmaceutical discovery, upstream oil and gas modeling, financial analytics, weather simulation, automotive and aerospace manufacturing, as well as traditional HPC customers in academic and government research. Seagate and SGI will be exhibiting at SC14, November 16-21 in New Orleans.

NASA Chooses SGI Compute Solution to Power Climate Research

SGI announced that the NASA Center for Climate Simulation (NCCS), located at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland, has selected SGI to further enhance its research and analysis capabilities in climate prediction. The NCCS is home to the Discover supercomputer, which conducts weather and climate simulations that span time scales from seasons and years to decades and centuries. Data and visualizations from these simulations are then made available to researchers, laboratories, and universities around the world, fueling climate science discovery at an accelerated pace. As climate simulations use and produce a vast amount of data, the NCCS replaced legacy portions of Discover in order to reduce maintenance costs and meet its growing climate data needs. Based on SGI's proven ability to solve large-scale, data-intensive problems with industry-standard components while providing ease-of-use benefits, NCCS chose 1.9 petaflops of SGI Rackable(R) clusters featuring an Intel(R) Xeon(R) E5-2696 v3 processor, with a non-blocking Mellanox(R) fat tree FDR interconnect. By procuring additional compute power through SGI, the NCCS will be able to analyze larger amounts of existing and new data as well as develop higher-resolution weather and climate simulations, improving the reliability of research findings. The new capabilities will also permit researchers to derive even more precise findings from regional-scale simulations based on global-scale climate modeling results. The end-to-end Mellanox fat tree FDR fabric will allow the NCCS to fluidly connect its existing scalable units into the SGI Rackable Scalable Unit. With physical space constraints at the NCCS, SGI's solution is ideal as it delivers a very dense system with fewer nodes and more cores at a lowered cost. Additionally, the SGI Rackable Clusters' water-chilled server racks will ensure a highly efficient cooling solution while seamlessly integrating into the existing NCCS infrastructure.
