Its Wireless segment offers access to various wireless voice and data services comprising Internet access through smart and basic phones, and notebook computers and tablets; messaging services; and consumer and business focused multimedia applications under Verizon Wireless brand. This segment also provides location-based services; global data services; HomeFusion Broadband, a high-speed Internet service for homes; other connection-related services, such as network access and value added services to support telemetry-type applications; and machine-to-machine services that support devices used in healthcare, manufacturing, utilities, distribution, and consumer products markets, as well as sells smart phones and basic phones, tablets, and other Internet access devices. As of May 15, 2014, it served 103.3 million retail customers. The company’s Wireline segment offers video services over its fiber-optic network; data services comprising high-speed Internet and FiOS broadband data products, as well as local exchange capacity, managed, mobility, and security services; voice services, such as local exchange, regional, long distance, wire maintenance, and voice messaging services, as well as VoIP, and landline and wireless services; and local dial tone and broadband services to local, long distance, and other carriers. This segment also provides networking products and solutions, such as private Internet protocol services, and Ethernet access and ring services; and infrastructure and cloud services. In addition, it offers FiOS Quantum TV service in New York and New Jersey. The company was formerly known as Bell Atlantic Corporation and changed its name to Verizon Communications Inc. in June 2000. Verizon Communications Inc. was founded in 1983 and is headquartered in New York, New York.

Verizon Communications Inc. reported unaudited consolidated earnings results for second quarter and six months ended June 30, 2014. For the quarter, the company reported net income attributable to company of $4,214 million or $1.01 per diluted share on operating revenues of $31,483 million against net income attributable to company of $2,246 million or $0.78 per diluted share on operating revenues of $29,786 million for same period a year ago. Operating income for the period was $7,685 million against $6,555 million for same period a year ago. Income before provision for income taxes was $6,544 million against $6,186 million for same period a year ago. Consolidated EBITDA margin (non-GAAP, based on earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization) was 37.6% for second-quarter 2014, compared with 35.9% for second-quarter 2013. On an adjusted basis (non-GAAP), the company posted EPS of 91 cents in second-quarter 2014, a 24.7% increase compared with 73 cents per share in second-quarter 2013. Free cash flow was $3.3 billion. Capital expenditure was $4.3 billion. Net debt was $104 billion. For six months, the company reported net income attributable to company of $8,161 million or $2.15 per basic and diluted share on operating revenues of $62,301 million against net income attributable to company of $4,198 million or $1.46 per basic and diluted share on operating revenues of $59,206 million for same period a year ago. Net debt as of June 30, 2014 was $104,203 million compared to $40,063 million as of December 31, 2013. The company continues to target 2014 investments in the range of $16.5 billion to $17 billion, with a decrease in capital spending as a percentage of total revenues for the full year of 2014. The company continues to target consolidated top-line growth of 4% and adjusted consolidated EBITDA margin expansion in 2014, with positive contributions to profitable growth from both wireless and wireline.

Verizon To Acquire Spectrum Or Airwave Licenses Of Dish Network

Verizon Communications Inc. (NYSE:VZ) is looking to acquire spectrum or airwave licenses of Dish Network Corp. (NasdaqGS:DISH). Lowell McAdam, Verizon's Chief Executive Officer said, "Dish has got some great spectrum. Spectrum is the life and blood of the mobile industry. Anything around spectrum is always of interest for us". He also emphasized the company is not interested in acquiring Dish.
